We are on a quest to personalize education. OUR PURPOSE IS PREPARING STUDENTS. Education is a relationship business. Students are grown, not manufactured. We work better together. Every student is an individual. Students care when we care about them. We help students to help themselves. All we do is built upon by others.

OUR DAILY DISCIPLINE IS PEOPLE FIRST. Promote learning by doing. Nurture relationships that inspire learning. Create student centered learning environments. Create flexibility within structure. Connect with the community. See beyond school. Think tools and resources, not "technology."

Background of Our Vision for Wenatchee Schools Everyone in Wenatchee is impacted by what we do here at the School District – and the reverse is also true: what we do is influenced by the world beyond our doors. Education is a whole community responsibility. So when it came time to sharpen our vision for the next decade and more, we knew we couldn't do it alone. Last year, with the help of community leaders and over 4000 other people who live, work or study in Wenatchee, we launched Wenatchee Learns – an initiative aimed at developing a common vision for the future of local learning, and supporting that vision. Our District's vision is a response to our community's vision. Here's what we learned from Wenatchee Learns (and how we have applied it to our vision):

We are driven by a passion for the success of individual students. Look behind the systems and tests and statistics, and it's not hard to see that the essence of education is an individual student learning. Education is an investment in the future success of a person – a person of value – with not only dreams but vast potential waiting to be unleashed. When we see individual students thriving, it brings out the best in us as a community (and as fellow life long learners). Our passion for the success of individual learners is our source of strength.

We are investing in the future of our community. The future of our community depends on the success of individual learners. This makes our job in the School District a critical one: we are the primary organization responsible for investing in Wenatchee's future. That's why the goal of preparing individual students for the future is such a significant part of our District's vision.

We are addressing a rapidly changing world. Global changes in society, technology and economics are coming at a faster pace than at any time in history – and our education systems are not unique in their struggles to keep up with emerging challenges and needs (along with fresh opportunities and resources). Our community envisions a future education system that prepares students for the future in a more well-rounded fashion, that takes a more human-centered approach and that better supports an unbroken thread of learning for each student. As a District, we know that to adapt to the future we face and to meet our community's expectations, we must be a people-conscious organization capable of mastering the human impacts of diverse challenges.

A common theme in all our strategies is the power of people. A diverse range of ideas for change emerged from Wenatchee Learns community conversations – and yet a common theme underlies them all: to reach our full potential, we must evolve our education system to better adapt to the needs of the people the system serves. We learned, for example, that the power of technology lies in it's ability to create more flexibility and differentiation in and out of the classroom – that the power of our whole learning community lies in fully tapping the strengths of everyone in it – and that the power of our infrastructure and scheduling lies in how well they are able to flex and meet diverse human needs. We heard from our community, from students and from District staff about collaboration – about individual ownership – about a whole-person approach – and much more along these lines. A District's approach to designing our future education delivery system, to involving our community and to implementing learning tools and resources must mirror the vision of our Whole Learning Community in this respect: people first.
