Universidad del Valle Vicerrectoría de Investigaciones Dirección de Relaciones Internacionales Ceratium (UK) Ecoteknica (UK) CIATEJ (Mex) Second workshop: Worldwide funding opportunities OBJECTIVE. The objective of this follow-up project is to build upon the work undertaken during the visit last year 2016, namely to help Universidad del Valle (UniValle) develop concrete international links and seek a broad spectrum of external funding opportunities, and to increase the probability of success for applications for funding. PROPOSAL: 1) Identify Global Funding Opportunities. Prior to the visit the experts will develop a database of global funds and cross match this to the research groups the experts reviewed during the last visit. This database will be designed to be readily maintained so that this can become a live and continuous resource. An overview of the various opportunities will be given in a seminar at UniValle. It is considered vital that UniValle seeks funds from sources in addition to considering H2020 and the Newton Fund. 2) Identify key partners in Europe for potential collaboration. This will be undertaken prior to the visit to Colombia. It will be based on information about the prioritized research groups and near-horizon funding opportunities. If required, teleconferences will be facilitated between partners to formulate ideas and collaborations. 3) Workshop. A five day visit will be made during this semester (from May 22 to May 26 2017). During this visit the experts will work with prioritized groups to develop funding application writing skills. The aim is not to develop fully fledged proposals, but instead to give researchers the capability to understand what the funders require in terms of an application and how to approach working in a consortium. All work will be done in English. 4) Training session for administrators. A short session will give to the administrators so that they will be aware of the bureaucratic requirements of foreign funding agencies, particularly the EC H2020 programme.

5) Follow up work. For the prioritized groups the experts will offer advice and guidance as the groups develop their applications. This will not be an application writing service and of course it cannot be guarantee success for any funding application, but the experts aim to make the probability of success higher. 6) Acting on Immediate Opportunities. Given that there are some relevant deadlines for funding before the proposed visit the experts can, at UniValle’s request, support project teams with partnering and application advice before the planned visit. 7) Seminars. This time we will also have three different seminars given in Spanish by Dra. Patricia Ocampo Thomason. One seminar will be on the funding and management of international sciences to show you how academies and governments work together on really big projects and how you can become part of this process. The second and third seminar will be on funding opportunities in Mexico for Colombian researchers. The seminars will be open to everyone. TIME The onsite visit is programmed for the 22nd through to the 26th May. GROUPS. The groups’ selection will be based on the 44 posters presented last year during the First workshop H2020 - Universidad del Valle. The experts with the funding database will select the possible groups and will do a match among them, according to the area of expertise. The idea is to select at least 10 groups and we expect each group to nominate 2 to 3 participants (it is important to confirm the participation). The total number of participants will not be more than 30 people. The criteria used to pick up these groups are:  The group has experienced abroad Univalle.  It is a multidisciplinary group.  It works on areas that could be easily match with the funding opportunities. The onsite visit will have three different sessions: The first will be three different seminars given in Spanish on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 12:30pm (May 22nd to May 26th). This is open to anyone who will like to attend and it will take place on the auditorium Angel Zapata, Biblioteca Mario Carvajal - Melendez (see the calendar attached for more information). The second session will be the 5 days’ workshop with the selected groups in different places (see the list attach of the groups selected and the calendar for more information). There will also be a clinic session which is directed to the groups who already have a proposal (in English) and would like to have feedback (comments, suggestions, etc.). The

experts will arrange specific appointments according to the proposals sent to them. This proposals should be submitted by May 12. (see the calendar for more details).
