When we announced the new Optibike 850R with MBB Speed Drive last week, many customers asked about upgrading their Optibike with a Speed Drive, and for good reason.

Benefits: • Drastically reduces chain wear, chain noise, chain related maintenance on any Optibike. • Eliminates the derailleur entirely, and replaces it with an ultra low maintenance 14 speed internally geared German made Rohloff hub that requires no adjustments. • More gear range for greater hill climbing torque and higher top speeds.

About the Rohloff Speedhub 500/14: The Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 has been developed for both pros and performance oriented hobby cyclists who can appreciate it because of its reliability, perfect single gear ratios, wide range of gears, low maintenance and easy operation; its weight and efficiency are ideal even for pro racing. The sealed gearbox ensures reliability and durability even under the toughest conditions. The even increments of 13.6% from gear to gear make it possible to always ride at the performance peak. The overall range makes sure that you have the right gear in every situation. Pure fun is guaranteed. The SPEEDHUB 500/14 is operated by a twist shifter which shifts simply by pulling separate cables up or down. The indexing of the shifting lies not in the shifter as with common designs, but inside the hub. There is no wear on the indexing system nor need to adjust it.

About the upgrade process: The Rohloff Speedhub uses 2 cables to shift, rather than the single cable system your derailleur uses. This makes for a rather involved installation because the hole in the front of the Optibike frame where the shifting cable enters was designed for a single cable. Here is an overview of the upgrade process: 1) Your bike is shipped back to Colorado (don’t worry, we made this process easy- read on) 2) Electronics and battery are removed from the bike to prevent damage in step 3. 3) Cable guide hole is machined larger to accommodate 2 cables. 4) Frame is thoroughly cleaned of debris. 5) New cables are installed, along with new Rohloff 14 speed grip shifter. 6) Battery is capacity tested, firmware is upgraded to latest version, and connectors are inspected for integrity. 7) At this time, if you want to upgrade your motor to a higher power- you can do so. (charges apply.) 8) Entire bike is tuned at no additional charge. This includes replacing brake pads if necessary in addition to inspecting/adjusting suspension and other critical components. 9) MBB is inspected and serviced. 10) New rear wheel is built by hand. This is a Mavic XM719 rim with 32 spokes and the Rohloff 500/14 hub. 11) New Rear brake disk is installed. 12) Monkey Bone torque arm is installed. 13) New Chain and front sprocket are installed. 14) Installation is completed and your bike is dyno tested and test ridden for quality assurance.

Shipping your bike to Colorado (made simple) Shipping your bike to Colorado does not have to be difficult! We have designed and manufactured custom shipping box to streamline the process. In fact, we have included all shipping charges in the price of the upgrade. Shipping Process: 1) Call us and say “I want a Speed Drive upgrade!” We will then ship you a box with return labels. 2) Remove your front wheel, front fender, rear fender, pedals, and seat and then drop

your bike into the custom foam package that will hold your bike very securely and prevent any scratching or damage. Put the lid on the box, buckle down the included straps, and call FEDEX. You are done. When your bike is done, we will FEDEX your bike back to you. Super easy!

Price: $3000 The price is all inclusive of the upgrade, complete electronics inspection, updating, and complete bike disassembly with complete inspection of all components ($349 value). Shipping in 3 directions, including sending custom box to you for initial return is also included. This cost is for customers in the 48 contiguous US states only. Call for international quote. Timeline Optibike has allocated the month of January 2010 to perform these upgrades. Because of the immense amount of time involved with this process, we will only be able to upgrade 15 bikes and these slots are reserved on a first come first served basis.
