Perez Speaker of the Assembly California State Capitol Sacramento, Ca 95814 Dear Speaker Perez: I am writing in support of appointing Monterey County Supervisor Jane Parker to the Coastal Commission to serve the Central Coast Region. As someone who has been a longtime supporter of the Coastal Commission, and who has valued the work down by my friend, Mark Stone, I respect Supervisor Parker’s dedication and commitment to listening to all sides of an issue and making informed decisions. There are fierce pressures on the environment, particularly along the coast. Supervisor Parker is a person who will respect the desires of coastal communities to develop, while at the same time even-handedly enforce the laws that protect the coastal environment and coastal access for all Californians. Supervisor Parker’s District spans coastal and inland communities dominated by working families of diverse backgrounds, including large portions of the City of Salinas. She has a long history of working for social justice organizations that recognize the influence of environment on the health and wellbeing of such communities. I know that the Coastal Commission is a demanding and sometimes contentious place; I am confident that Supervisor Parker will serve as ably there as she does on our local Board of Supervisors.
