Weekly Incident Summary July 10-16, 2017 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, July 10, 2017 12:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an unknown odour on Niagara Trail. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings. It was determined that the detector was faulty. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 05:47 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Guelph Line in Milton Township. Upon arrival on scene it was noted that the house was fully involved with flames showing in every window. After a face to face with Milton Fire, it was determined that Halton Hills Fire was not required. 06:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of wires arcing on Regional Road 25. While enroute fire was advised that Hydro was on scene. Fire staff continued to the scene to make contact with Hydro. No actions were required. 17:17 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Guelph Line & 25 Sideroad. Halton Regional Paramedics were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff disabled the battery and checked both vehicles for fluid leaks. Fire staff provided traffic control until Halton Regional Police arrived. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 12:16 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a BBQ fire on Somerville Road in Acton. On scene fire staff found a BBQ grease pan burning. Fire staff extinguished the fire and cleared the scene. 12:38 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a three-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Dublin Line & Highway 7. Halton Regional Paramedics were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff disabled the vehicle and applied absorbent to leaking fluids. 14:28 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Ontario St. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who did not have a valid burn permit. The fire was almost self-extinguished upon arrival, so it was allowed to burn out. The burn permit process was explained for any future burns. No further concerns. 19:49 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Mowbray Pl. Halton Regional Paramedics were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required.

Thursday, July 13, 2017 12:47 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of wires arcing on Victoria St. On scene fire staff found a switch arcing on a hydro pole. Fire remained on scene until Hydro arrived and cleared. 13:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Main St N in Acton. On scene fire staff met with building personnel. There was a mid-sized fire in their pit, approximately 2m x 4m x 1m. The smoke was light and the burn was under control. 16:16 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a brush fire in the area of Fourth Line and 15 Sideroad. Upon arrival on scene, it was noted that a large pile approximately 20'x20'x5' of brush, stumps, and pulled shrubbery etc. was smoldering with some small flames. Smoke was traveling across 15 Sideroad due to wind. Fire staff pulled apart the piles and extinguished the fire. 21:56 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Park Ave. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised this was a faulty detector and would have the detector in the stairwell replaced. No further concerns. Friday, July 14, 2017 11:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Birchway Place in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the tenant who advised their alarm was chirping off and on for the last few days. Fire staff installed and tested a new CO alarm, and cleared the scene. 13:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Mountainview Rd S and 10 Sideroad. Upon arrival on scene fire was advised they were no longer required. Saturday, July 15, 2017 05:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff entered the building, conducted an investigation and found no activated detectors or reason for the alarm. 06:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire on Guelph St in Norval. Upon arrival on scene, fire staff found a vehicle with a single occupant pulled over to the shoulder with hazard lights on. No fire conditions noted with this vehicle. Fire staff spoke with the occupant who confirmed there had been no smoke. Further investigation east along Highway 7/Bovaird Dr into Brampton found no concerns. 15:47 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Seedhouse Lane. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found 55 ppm of CO. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a hot water tank vent was disconnected from the coupling, and venting inside the home. Fire staff shut gas off to the hot water unit and disconnected power to the blower motor. The homeowner was advised to contact Union Gas immediately to have a technician respond. 22:47 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint in the area of Steeles Ave & Trafalgar Rd. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who was burning without a

valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained for future burns. 23:53 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Victoria St. On scene fire staff assisted with packaging the patient into the ambulance and cleared the scene. Sunday, July 16, 2017 12:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Kingham Rd in Acton. Upon arrival on scene crews could smell smoke in the area but no smoke or flames were visible. Prior to Fire’s arrival a neighbour had entered the home and found a pot on the stove had boiled over onto the electric stove and had created a lot of smoke. Fire staff entered the home and confirmed there was no extension or fire. The home was ventilated and a CO alarm and smoke alarm was installed. 14:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an elevator rescue on Hall Rd. Upon arrival fire staff met with building personnel who advised that two people were stuck in the elevator. Fire staff determined the elevator was stuck halfway between the 5th and 6th floors. Fire staff successfully removed the people from the elevator. 17:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Victoria Ave in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who did have a valid burn permit and was burning within the parameters of the permit. Due to the complaint of smoke, the homeowner agreed to let the fire burn out and not add any more wood. Weekly Safety Message The leading cause of dryer fires is a lack of maintenance. Inspect and clean the lint screen after each load and regularly remove lint from the metal ducts and exhaust vents. The build-up of lint can lead to a fire.
