Weekly Incident Summary August 1 – 7, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, August 1, 2016 17:10 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Tenth Line north of Steeles Ave. On scene staff met with the homeowner who was burning a large pile of wood, did not have a valid burn permit and was burning during the burn ban. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained. 17:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a medical assist on Elizabeth Drive in Acton. On arrival crews began medical treatment until EMS arrived. Fire department staff continued to assist EMS staff until patient transported. 18:44 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Jolana Crescent. On scene fire staff found the resident had removed all the smoke alarms trying to source the problem. No smoke or fire was visible. Staff reconnected the detectors and found the basement unit faulty. The homeowner was directed to replace the hard-wired unit. Tuesday, August 2, 2016 00:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a smell of gasoline in a residence on Stewart Maclaren Road. During the investigation, staff found the source of the smell coming from an ATV leaking fuel in the garage. Staff stopped the leak and placed absorbent on the leaked fuel. 07:42 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a smell of natural gas in a home on Wildflower Lane. On scene fire staff found that the resident had turned on a new natural gas fired fireplace and the odour was as a result of the burn-off of a new appliance. No other issues found. 14:13 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Eighth Line and Steeles Ave. On arrival crews found a two vehicle collision with minor damage. One of the occupants asked to be checked over by EMS. Staff began medical assessment of the occupant until the arrival of EMS. No further action required. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 05:45 Hours Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Atwood Avenue. On scene staff checked the home using detectors with no problems found. Staff replaced a faulty detector for the resident.

14:57 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Winston Churchill Boulevard in Norval. On scene staff met with building personnel who advised while conducting their monthly alarm test they were unable to reset the alarm. Staff reset the alarm and instructed building staff on the proper method to reset the alarm. 16:44 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Princess Anne Drive. Upon arrival fire was advised this was a false alarm caused by contractors working on the system. 17:28 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a hydro pole on fire on Mackenzie Drive. On scene staff found the pole smouldering around the transformer. Crews contacted Halton Hills Hydro and released the scene to them on their arrival. Thursday, August 4, 2016 03:24 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Oak Ridge Drive. On scene fire staff entered the home where the homeowner indicated there was no fire but had heard chirping of what he thought was his smoke alarms. While investigating each unit he accidently set off the monitored alarm system. Staff could not locate any problem and cleared scene. 13:40 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a medical assist call on Barber Drive. Staff commenced medical assessment until arrival of EMS. 14:40 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Halton Hills Dr. On arrival staff confirmed a false alarm as a result of a pull station accidently activated. No further action required. Friday, August 5, 2016 07:35 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Draper Street. On scene staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings. The resident had a new detector to replace the faulty unit. Crews assisted with the installation of the new unit. 08:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on River Drive. On scene staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings. During the investigation staff found the reason for the activation was a low battery. Crews replaced the battery. 17:20 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Southwinds Drive. On scene staff entered the home where the resident advised that while replacing the battery in the smoke alarm the system activated. No further action required. 19:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Danville Ave. On scene staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings. Crews assisted the resident with the installation of new detectors. 22:14 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Elgin Street. On scene staff met with the residents who indicated their detectors had activated and they were not feeling well. Upon entry crews checked the home using detectors and found zero readings. EMS were called to the scene to check the

residents but transport was not required. Crews found aged detectors in the home and replaced them for the residents. 22:32 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Guelph Street. On scene staff met with the homeowners who did not have a valid burn permit and were burning during the burn ban. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained for future burns. Saturday, August 6, 2016 04:45 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Raylawn Crescent. On arrival staff found no one home at the residence but could hear an activated smoke alarm. No fire or smoke found in the home. Crews disabled the faulty detector in the vacant home. Fire prevention staff will follow up with homeowner. 21:20 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Dayfoot Drive. On scene staff met with the homeowners. They possessed a valid burn permit but were burning during the burn ban. The fire was extinguished. 21:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Stewarttown Road. On scene staff met with the homeowner who did not have a valid burn permit and was burning during a burn ban. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained for future burns. Sunday, August 7, 2016 09:33 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation at a Barber Drive residence. On scene staff met with the resident who advised that their alarm activated while cooking breakfast. Fire staff had arrived just as the homeowner was on the phone to cancel the alarm. No further action required. 15:13 Hours Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Campbell Court. On scene staff met with the homeowner who did have a valid burn permit but was burning during a burn ban. The fire was extinguished. 20:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a May Street residence for a medical assist call. Medical assistance was provided until the arrival of EMS staff.
