Weekly Incident Summary May 30 – June 5, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, May 30, 2016 00:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an unknown odour in the area of Guelph and Main Streets. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that they kept getting a smell of gas or propane. After checking the inside of the house fire staff found plastic burning on the heating element of the dishwasher. 03:23 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint in the area of Guelph St and Brucewood Road. On scene staff found residents having a small fire on a patio. The tenants were explained the burn permit process and the fire was extinguished. 03:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Eaton Street. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised there were no concerns. 15:09 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire on Seed House Lane. On scene staff found a vehicle with the engine area fully involved with the fire extended inside the vehicle. Crews quickly extinguished the fire. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 07:13 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Five Sideroad and Fifth Line. On scene crews stabilized the vehicles and provided traffic control until Halton Regional Police arrived. One patient was taken to the hospital by ambulance. 20:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a collision involving two motor vehicles, one of which had driven into a hydro pole, in the area of Main St N and Carruthers Road. The crew stabilized the vehicles and after a discussion with both Halton Regional Police and ambulance, cleared the scene. 21:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Halton Hills Drive. Upon arrival the fire alarm could be heard and residents had evacuated. No signs of fire. Fire staff entered the building with the fire panel showing trouble on the 10th Floor. On the 10th floor fire staff found water leaking from the ceiling. Building personnel was advised of the water issue. The system was silenced and a trouble light for the 10th floor remained on. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 06:43 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Guelph Line and 25 Sideroad. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival. Fire staff

performed traffic control and confirmed no hazards associated with vehicle. Halton Regional Police arrived on scene and advised fire was no longer required. 10:13 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire in the area of 10 Sideroad and Sixth Line. On scene staff found several adults and teenagers attempting to extinguish a fire that had spread from a burn pile of brush and tree branches to nearby grass on a steep hill about 20 feet high. The fire was contained by these efforts. Fire staff doused the flames and smoldering fire with water. 11:06 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Winston Churchill Blvd and Mayfield Road. On scene fire staff found the vehicle on its side in the ditch. The single occupant was out of the vehicle prior to arrival and refused any treatment or medical aid. Crews stabilized the vehicle and cleared when Halton Regional Police arrived. Thursday, June 2, 2016 14:07 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire on Ninth Line. On scene fire staff found a large pile of timber and a flatbed trailer with timber piled on top on fire. Crews quickly extinguished the fire. The fire had spread to a nearby tree and was extinguished. The property owner did have a valid Farm permit and was burning within the requirements of the permit. The wind had picked up, causing the fire to spread. 23:42 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Wylie Circle. On scene staff entered the home and found zero readings throughout the home. The CO detector was found to be working properly. The homeowner was advised to leave the unit outside for a few hours to help clear the internal filters, after which it could be plugged back in. Friday, June 3, 2016 12:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Eighth Line, north of Steeles Avenue. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 13:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Steeles Avenue and Trafalgar Road. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 19:12 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a three-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Steeles Avenue and Fifth Line. One patient required extrication and was transported to Milton Hospital. A second patient refused treatment on scene. Saturday, June 4, 2016 15:45 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a large amount of smoke in the area of Elizabeth St. and Main St N in Acton. The responding crew identified the source of the smoke. The property owner did have a valid permit and was burning within the requirements of the permit. The crew cleared the scene.

Sunday, June 5, 2016 13:59 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Dairy Drive in Acton. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that there was a smell of gas in the basement, after spilling gas in the garage and washing it into the driveway. The homeowner was asked to pour water down the floor drain while fire staff used the electric PPV and ventilated the TV room and furnace room. Basement windows were left open to continue to ventilate and closed off the furnace room.
