Wednesday, August 10, 2016 06:57 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a CO activation on Gollop Cr. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that following a shower, heard an alarm in the basement, and when entering the basement could smell natural gas coming from the hot water tank. The gas supply line to the hot water tank was shut off and the gas smell vanished. When fire staff first entered the basement there were CO readings of 38 ppm on the main floor of the bungalow and 76 ppm in the basement. After investigating every other possibility in the home and checking all vents and the gas meter outside, it was determined the hot water tank was the cause. The homeowner scheduled a service call to repair the hot water tank and was advised to leave the tank off and out of service until the repairs were completed. 14:48 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Guelph St & Sinclair Ave. Ambulance was on scene and tending to one patient upon arrival on scene. As crews began their fire attack from the rear, it was discovered that a shed, approx. 10’x10’ was totally engulfed in flames. The close proximity of the shed to the home caused flames to impinge into the attic area through the soffits. As a result of the fire crews’ quick action, the flames were confined to the shed and never established a foothold inside the home or attic. Embers from the fire set the grass alight on a neighbour’s backyard property however this fire was quickly extinguished. Damage is estimated to be approximately $60,000. 17:50 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a hydro pole on fire on Raylawn Cres.
