Weekly Incident Summary May 16-29, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, May 16, 2016 08:50 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Norton Crescent. On scene fire staff assisted with lifting an elderly resident and performing minor medical assistance. 16:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a dryer fire on Huffmann Drive. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that their washing machine was smoking with a burning smell. Fire staff entered the home and detected an odour that was similar to a burning belt but no smoke. Fire staff unplugged the washing machine, removed the top panel and inspected the interior for fire or other issues. Nothing was found and no elevated temperatures were detected. The homeowner was advised to leave the appliance unplugged until it had been inspected by a technician and proper repairs were completed. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 13:36 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Norton Crescent. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival. Fire staff assisted with packaging the patient and cleared the scene. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 19:57 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of an unknown odour on Robinson Road. Staff were directed to the basement of the home where a strong odour of a solvent was present in the range of 500 ppm. The odour was traced back to the sump pump and weeping tile system. The sump was emptied which diminished the odour but the levels slowly climbed back to original levels. No internal or external sources could be found nor were there any similar issues in adjacent homes. The sump was evacuated again and positive pressure fans were used to evacuate the odour from the basement and weeping tile system. The odour was reduced to the 6 ppm level and the system sealed. The homeowner was directed to contact their insurance provider to source a contractor to completely flush the system. Thursday, May 19, 2016 08:05 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Sixth Line and Steeles Avenue. Ambulance and Milton Fire were on scene upon arrival. Ambulance was tending to patients on-scene. A small fuel tanker had rear ended a school bus. Fire staff assisted with patient care. No leaks were detected

from the tanker. The school bus passengers were transported to the nearby hospital for assessment. 09:06 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Maple Avenue. While enroute, fire staff were advised this was a false alarm as the school was conducting a fire drill. 11:08 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on John Goy Senior Trail in Acton. On scene staff met with the homeowner who was running their car in the driveway with the garage door and interior door open. Fire staff aired out the detector, reinstalled it, where it kept activating. The homeowner was advised to replace the unit. 14:09 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of an unknown odour on Guelph Street. On scene fire staff found several people complaining of headaches and sore throats. A contractor had applied a concrete sealer to the floor of the neighbouring unit and the fumes were the source of the problem. Fire staff ventilated several units until meters were reading next to zero. 17:31 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire on Longfield Road in Acton. Smoke was visible from the road upon arrival on scene. Fire staff gained access from a backyard on Longfield Road. Three small fires were visible. Fire staff went to various locations along the tracks where fires were extinguished. CN was notified to stop rail traffic until fire staff had cleared the tracks. Friday, May 20, 2016 11:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire in the area of Greenore Cr in Acton. Fire staff searched the area and were unable to locate any fires and cleared the scene. 14:33 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a grass fire along the CN Railway tracks north of 5 Sideroad. A large grass fire approximately 2 km north of 5 Side Road could be seen and was being extinguished by staff from Milton Fire Dept. Milton crews were already in the area extinguishing fire along the tracks from the Steeles Avenue. CN Police were contacted to ensure a "Stop Order" was in place to protect crews working along the rail lines and Halton Regional Police were contacted to provide traffic control for operations occurring at 5 Side Road. The majority of the fire was knocked down and overhauls of hay bales and railway ties were performed. The cause of the fire is suspected to be sparks thrown from the wheels of a passing train, igniting the ground cover alongside the railway tracks. 15:29 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire on 15 Sideroad. While searching for fires related to a previous grass fire, crews discovered smoke blowing across the road at a property on 15 Sideroad. The fire was unattended upon arrival. The fire was extinguished. 19:45 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire in the area of 10 Sideroad and Third Line. Fire crews attended the area and were unable to locate any sign of fire.

21:37 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Orchid Ave. On scene staff met with the homeowner who did not have a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained to the homeowner for any future burns. 22:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an unknown odour on Durham Street. On scene staff entered the building and found no evidence of any odour. Fire staff walked the outside perimeter of the building and again there was no evidence of any odour. Saturday, May 21, 2016 01:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Elmore Drive. On scene fire staff assisted with packaging the patient into the ambulance and cleared the scene. 16:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Danville Avenue in Acton. On scene staff found a chimnea with a fire almost burnt out. The homeowner was advised not to re-lite for the remainder of the evening. 20:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Hale Drive. Ambulance and Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised Fire was not required. 21:01 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Eighth Line. On scene staff met with building personnel who advised that a child had activated a pull station. Fire staff reset the pull station and building personnel reset the panel successfully. Sunday, May 22, 2016 18:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an elevator rescue on Halton Hills Drive. On scene staff met with building personnel who advised that a person was stuck in the elevator on the 10th floor. Staff used the firefighter elevator key to reset the elevator. The elevator was brought to the ground floor where the individual was removed. No medical attention was required. 23:46 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a garbage fire on Guelph Street. On scene fire staff discovered two garbage containers on fire at the splash pad/playground inside Christ the King Secondary School property. Five people were at the fire and had attempted to extinguish the flames with water bottles. Both garbage’s were full of containers of used fireworks. Fire staff extinguished the fire and the embers created from the burning boxes. Monday, May 23, 2016 00:40 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Lauchlin Crescent. On scene staff met with the homeowners who were having a small contained fire without a valid burn permit. The homeowner was advised not to add any more wood to the fire and let it burn out. The burn permit process was explained to the homeowner for any future fires.

16:38 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Durham Street. On scene staff assisted with packaging the patient into the ambulance and cleared the scene. 21:30 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint in the area of Dayfoot Dr and Mill Street. Fire staff checked the area and streets around the area, with nothing found. 23:17 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint with a strong smell of burning plastic, on Orville Road in Acton. On scene fire staff checked the area with no odour noticed. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 18:20 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible grass fire in the area of Ninth Line and 5 Sideroad. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who did have a valid burn permit but was not burning within the parameters of the permit, including a fire too large and burning unacceptable material. Crews extinguished the fire. Fire Prevention staff to follow up with permit holder. Thursday, May 26, 2016 16:57 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a three vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Maple Avenue and Delrex Blvd. Ambulance and Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised Fire was not required. 19:14 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire on College Street. On scene staff fire a vehicle on fire under the hood in the engine compartment, with the homeowner using a garden hose on the fire. Fire staff extinguished the fire. Friday, May 27, 2016 20:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint in the area of Metcalfe Court. On scene staff found a small contained fire producing a small amount of smoke. The homeowner did have a valid burn permit but was asked to extinguish the fire due to the complaint. Saturday, May 28, 2016 15:59 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Regional Road 25 and 32 Sideroad. Halton Regional Police and ambulance was on scene upon arrival. No extrication was required. Fire staff disabled the vehicles and cleared the scene. 21:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Mill St W in Acton. On scene staff met with the tenant who did not have a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained. 21:18 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on 27 Sideroad. On scene staff met with the homeowner who did have a valid burn permit and had been burning but left a small amount of coals in the fire pit. The fire was left to burn out.

Sunday, May 29, 2016 01:45 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Steeles Avenue where a small camp fire was found. Since there was no valid permit, the occupant was explained the rules of burning and the fire was allowed to burn out. 19:38 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Adamson and Guelph Streets in Norval. On scene staff provided patient care. Two people with head and spine injuries one collared the other refused. The driver of the second vehicle complained of a sore arm and shoulder, but refused patient care. Halton Regional Police and ambulance arrived a short time later. Fire staff assisted with traffic control.
