Weekly Incident Summary August 15-21, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, August 15, 2016 01:03 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Sixth Line. While enroute fire was advised they were no long required. 08:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a tractor on fire on Five Side Road. On scene fire crews confirmed a small fire in the engine compartment had been extinguished by the resident. The tractor's engine compartment sustained very minor damage. 11:18 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an unknown odour investigation on John St. On scene staff met with the caller who advised that they could smell what they thought was propane in the adjacent park. Fire staff walked and swept the area with detectors and found no evidence of any hazardous gases. 14:17 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an elevator rescue on Mill St. On scene staff was directed to the second floor elevator entrance of a wheelchair access elevator. There were two occupants inside the elevator who were not in medical distress and were in voice contact with the attending crew. Fire staff did a circuit breaker reset of the elevator system and the system reset successfully. The occupants were able to operate the elevator to the 2nd floor at which time they exited safely. Building staff were advised to have a maintenance technician do a follow up on the elevator to make sure it was working properly. 17:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Baylor Cres. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who was cooking on a spit over an open fire bowl in the rear yard. The homeowner was advised of the burn ban in effect and the burn permit process for any future burns. 18:56 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Baylor Cres. On scene fire staff found nothing in the area reported by the caller. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 10:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Five Sideroad between Tenth Line and Winston Churchill Blvd. Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 13:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an alarm activating in the area of Stewart MacLaren Road. On scene, fire staff were approached by a resident from

Beverly Lane who advised us that their alarm had gone off earlier and had since been reset. No other concerns. 14:42 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an elevator rescue on Mill St. On scene staff were directed to the second floor elevator entrance. On arrival to the second floor the occupants were found exiting the stuck elevator. The occupants showed no signs of distress. The elevator was marked as 'Do not operate' as there have been issues with this system over the last couple of days. A technician had been notified to look into the problem. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 16:04 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a grass fire on Fifth Line. Fire staff arrived on scene of the grass fire where they found the property owner trying to extinguish the fire. Firefighters extinguished the fires. The homeowner did have a valid burn permit but was not burning within the requirements. The burn permit was revoked on scene. Thursday, August 18, 2016 22:05 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of flashing lights coming from a new home under construction on Oasis Trail. The residence was locked but the detectors had activated and the strobes from the detectors had created the flashing lights coming from inside the home. All doors were locked. Fire staff inspected the entire house from the exterior and there were no problems detected. Staff members entered the residence and removed the battery from the detector on the main floor, deactivating the detector and the strobes. Friday, August 19, 2016 19:16 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of smoke in the area of Lindsay Court. Upon arrival a small amount of smoke was coming from the rear yard. No permit was available and the fire was extinguished. The occupant was advised of the requirement for Burn Permits for any future burns. 20:13 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Victoria Avenue in Acton. On scene fire staff found a large burn pit at the rear of the backyard that contained burning wood. No permit was available and the fire was extinguished and the homeowner was advised of the requirement for Burn Permits for any future burns. 23:49 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Wildwood Road in Glen Williams. No permit was available and the fire was extinguished and the homeowner was advised of the requirement for Burn Permits for any future burns. Saturday, August 20, 2016 14:38 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the intersection of Tenth Line and 22 Sideroad. Fire staff disabled the vehicle and cleared the scene. 16:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Apple Blossom Cres. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that steam had set off the heat

detector. Fire staff inspected the detector and the basement bathroom to confirm there were no further issues. Sunday, August 21, 2016 00:46 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Main St in Glen Williams. Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff extinguished the fire using a pump can and water taken from the nearby credit river. No permit was issued for this address. 03:36 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a police assist on Main St N. On scene staff assisted Halton Regional Police with gaining entry into the building and cleared the scene. Weekly Safety Message: Have children leaving for school? Make sure they are fire safe. Ensure working smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors are in place and they have an escape plan in the event of an emergency.
