Weekly Incident Summary August 22-28, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Tuesday, August 23, 2016 13:06 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a propane tank on fire on Todd Road. On scene fire staff found an acetylene welding cylinder on fire. Fire staff applied agent to the burning cylinder inside the structure to cool the tank portion - the fire was allowed to free burn from the relief valve. Building personnel advised that a spark from a torch hit the rubber hose lines from the cylinders and severed the lines to the Acetylene & O2 - then noticed the fire venting from the pressure relief valve of the Acetylene cylinder immediately. 18:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a barbecue fire on Eighth Line. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who had extinguished the fire prior to arrival. The homeowner was advised to clean out the barbecue before using again. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 16:45 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on McFarlane Drive. While enroute fire was advised this was a false alarm, caused by a technician on-site. On scene fire staff confirmed the false alarm and cleared the scene. 17:29 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Prince Charles Dr. On scene fire staff entered the home and using gas detectors found zero readings. The homeowner had replaced battery in unit before fire’s arrival and the beeping had stopped. Thursday, August 25, 2016 01:36 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Todd Road. While enroute fire received a second call to Todd Road and was advised these were both false alarms, caused by Bell service techs working on repairs to the phone line in the area. On scene fire staff confirmed the false alarm and cleared the scene. 6:44 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Upland Court. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff assisted with CPR and transport to the ambulance, and then cleared the scene. 13:48 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Victoria Avenue in Acton. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. 14:15 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Eighth Line. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who confirmed this was a false alarm. Renovations in the home caused the smoke alarm to activate. The homeowner was advised to contact

their monitoring company to have the system taken off line while construction crews are working near detectors, and to call again at end of day to enable alarm when crews are done working. 17:09 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Main St N and Guelph St in Acton. On scene fire staff provided patient care and performed traffic control until ambulance and Halton Regional Police arrived. 19:30 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle fire at the intersection of Winston Churchill Blvd and Old Pine Crest Road. On scene fire staff found a vehicle in the middle of the intersection emanating light smoke but was not on fire. After further investigation fire staff found a second vehicle approximately 100 meters away from the first vehicle. The second vehicle had extensive damage and had in fact rolled over multiple times. Airbags in both vehicles had been deployed. One patient was present in each of the vehicles and both showed only minor signs of injury. Fire staff assisted ambulance with patient care, disabled both vehicles and applied absorbant to mechanical fluids spills. Friday, August 26, 2016 13:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Mountainview Rd S. While enroute fire was advised this was a false call. On scene fire staff met with the store manager who confirmed there were no issues. 17:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Guelph St. On scene fire staff met with the store manager. After further investigation fire crews found that one or more of the compressors used for refrigeration was leaking fluid. The fluid was leaking onto the compressor itself and was causing smoke in the compressor room. The compressors were subsequently turned off and the room was ventilated. A technician was immediately contacted to repair the compressor(s). Saturday, August 27, 2016 09:20 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of 32 Sideroad and Fourth Line. While enroute ambulance advised fire was not required on scene. Fire staff returned to the station 13:15 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a gas line break on Main St N in Acton. On scene fire staff were directed to the location of the gas leak. The leak was found to be between the main shut off at the road and the building. Union Gas arrived on scene and shut off the gas to enable repairs. 15:44 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Cleaveholm Dr. Ambulance and Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival and advised fire was not required. Sunday, August 28, 2016 15:09 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Dublin Line in Acton. On scene fire staff confirmed this was a false alarm and cleared the scene.

17:08 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Mountainview Rd N. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who did have a valid burn permit and was burning within the parameters of the permit. The homeowner was cooking various food items and was instructed not to add any more material to the fire and let it burn out. 17:15 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Highway 7. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff assisted ambulance with patient care. Weekly Safety Message Kitchen fires are the leading cause of residential fires.
