Methow Valley Elementary School Week of May 15th, 2017
Note: Hello Everyone, With four short weeks to go, there is a lot to do and plenty to accomplish before we go our separate ways for the summer. The Young Writer’s Conference, Summer Olympics, End-of-the-Year Concerts, Grade 6/7 Dance, Grade 6 Moving On Ceremony, class field trips, another Book Grab for all of us to take home a handful of books for summer reading. It is a long list with many memories still to create. As always, you will have a handy reference for these and all of our school events in this Monday email from us. Thank you for your help in making these events and experiences work for all of us. You are critical to all that we do here at school. Have a good week, you and your whole family! Bob Winters *Here is an early reminder about the next Autism 200 lecture on Thursday, May 18th. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Methow Valley Elementary School Library. This live stream comes from the Seattle Children's Autism Center. It is the last program of the school year. I think that this presentation is an important one. I hope you can all make it. We are hoping to reach a wider audience for this presentation, as these issues affect more than just autistic individuals. If you know someone who might be interested, please encourage them to come. If you need childcare, please let me know in advance so I can make sure we have someone available. Please call me if you have any questions. I hope to see you there, Sue Otonicar 509-341-4777
With mounting tension across the country, creating a safe community requires collaboration. For individuals with autism spectrum disorder, learning to interact with police and first responders is critical. On the other hand, it is just as essential for police to understand autism and be prepared to respond effectively and safely to situations that arise involving individuals on the spectrum. The autism community must work together with law enforcement and the general public to ensure we are all safe together.
