Growing Gardens Winter and Spring 2017 Social Media and Communications Intern Description Our social media intern must be independent, self directed, creative, and a concise communicator. We’re looking for a candidate who is a meticulous editor and can keep our community well informed and involved with our mission. Along with taking charge of Growing Gardens’ social media accounts we are looking for a blog enthusiast ready to develop engaging stories that connect to the work we do and add to the dialogue of the food justice movement. Our intern will work closely with our Executive Director to market fundraising events, publicize volunteer needs, and develop outreach materials. Commitment: 10-15 hours per week for 6 months (January-June), flexible scheduling Internship primary responsibilities: Monthly Newsletter Promote Growing Gardens events and volunteer needs via social media platforms (FB/Twitter/Instagram) Create outreach materials for spring and summer fundraising events Website updates. Check website for broken links, plug ins, and outdated material Develop a minimum of two blog entries for Growing Gardens per month Table at universities or local events to recruit volunteers and increase knowledge of Growing Gardens Assist with data entry and database management as it relates to volunteer and fundraising efforts Skills: Wordpress and Publisher experience o Strong communication and social media platform ability o Knowledge of public outreach principles and practices o Great tabling and conversational ability Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work independently and as part of a team CSS and Constant Contact experience a plus Expectations: Attend Growing Gardens program orientation Commit to timeframe and increase social media following Keep our local community well informed and involved with Growing Gardens mission. Communicate effectively with Growing Gardens staff to promote marketing or volunteer needs via social media and event outreach Support Growing Gardens programs by touching base with Program Managers about outreach and recruitment needs. This includes Home Gardens Program, Youth Grow Program & Lettuce Grow. Reach out to local businesses to support and promote Growing Gardens events and volunteerism *This role reports directly to our Executive Director, Jason Skipton.
