Waikato MBA
Be in the top 1% in business The Waikato MBA offers the opportunity for you to accelerate your career in business management through: •• •• •• ••
Transformation Connection Leadership Value creation
The MBA will transform your thinking, prepare you for new levels of leadership, help you to create influential links, and add value to your organisation. The transformation that occurs is from specialist to generalist, functional to strategic, manager to leader, local to global, and from uncertain to confident. You will build connections through networking with other MBA participants, alumni, and our practice-relevant teaching staff. The programme puts a specific focus on leadership development – as well as management development – as a theme that is interwoven throughout the MBA. This includes assessments, one-on-one feedback, expert input and assignments.
Our teaching staff Our staff members are a combination of senior Waikato Management School academics and contracted professionals. Not only are they internationally recognised researchers in their field, they also engage with organisations in New Zealand and overseas as directors, consultants and advisers. This means they bring practice-relevant research into the lecture room and challenge you to think outside your current framework.
Leadership development Professional development is an important theme throughout the Waikato MBA. Research shows that relational and leadership skills are more important as you move up in your career. This programme is designed to move you out of your comfort zone and into a place of growth and transformation. It focuses on developing a deeper understanding of yourself and identifying areas of leadership development and growth.
Value creation is the process of adding value to your organisation by applying the knowledge you are learning in class. Participants say that what they learn at the weekend; they can apply to their job the following week. The MBA is easily the world’s most recognised and respected business degree. We are especially proud that the Waikato MBA has achieved the prestigious Triple Crown accreditation status, which means your qualification will be recognised globally. The University of Waikato has been awarded a QS Stars Five Star Rating, which means we are a world-class university with a high reputation for employment, cutting edge facilities, internationally renowned research, and outstanding teaching and student satisfaction.

JASON DAWSON CEO Hamilton & Waikato Tourism
“Having a world-class management school right on my doorstep and talking to business leaders who couldn’t speak higher of Waikato’s MBA definitely made my decision to go back to study easier. I had only heard good things about the calibre of the lecturers and the real-world business expertise they pass on. I chose the MBA because I was seeking external endorsement and verification that I have robust leadership and business skills. I’d never fully completed tertiary education, and I felt like now I was prepared and driven to do just that. It was really helpful for me to bring my management experience into the classroom and see it align with theories and research. I then built on this experience through exposure to world-class business leaders, some of which were our lecturers, and a trip to India which broadened my perspective on management and leadership, and encouraged me to see business in a different frame. The MBA gave me the inspiration and courage to start my own consultancy business working across multiple industries. This led to me seeking new opportunities, and becoming the new CEO of Hamilton & Waikato Tourism.”
