Congratulations to Emerson Junior-Senior High School Teacher Victoria Corso President Ann Pressimone and the Emerson Board of Education is proud to announce that Emerson JuniorSenior High School Science teacher Victoria Corso has been named the 2017-2018 recipient of the Bergen County Teacher Recognition Program. This program, offered jointly by a variety of Bergen County’s Professional Education Associations, is designed to identify and celebrate the very best educators in Bergen County. Teachers receiving this honor are identified as excelling in the following areas: strong classroom practice, working well with colleagues, and contributing to the overall school community. Ms. Corso has excelled in all three of these areas in her work at Emerson Junior-Senior High School. In the application process, Ms. Corso’s name was submitted by multiple members of the school community and her work was described in the following way: Ms. Corso supports colleagues and is always willing to share resources. She supports new teachers by sharing resources and by planning ahead. She has a great rapport with students as well, and is approachable. The students enjoy her style and energy. Ms. Corso is an expert in her content and is well respected in the department, as well as the school. Ms. Corso is never afraid to ask the questions that others may not want to ask. She takes on a leadership role and is always seeking to improve Emerson Schools in one way or another. Over the course of her career in Emerson, Ms. Corso has taught a variety of Science coursework across grades 7 – 12, including AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and 7th Grade Science focusing on the integration of science practices and skills. Along with her in-classroom work, she has coached and assisted with multiple sports and school activities, and currently serves as an Academic Coordinator in support of the Science Department. She has been a grade advisor and has also volunteered on numerous committees. Her classroom practice and dedication to the entire school community has been essential to the ongoing success of Emerson Junior-Senior High School. Ms. Corso earned her B.S. in Biology from William Paterson University and her M.A. in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. She is also an active member of the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) and is involved in professional development teacher groups for AP Biology and the Next Generation Science Standards. -------------The Emerson Public Schools are a highly regarded suburban school system located fifteen miles northwest of New York City in Bergen County, New Jersey. Aptly known as the “Family Town,” and “The Best Kept Secret in the Pascack Valley,” Emerson receives state and national recognition, and ranks near the top in student achievement among New Jersey’s demographically-similar districts. The district serves just under 1200 students in three educational centers: separate PreK-2, 3-6, and 7-12 school buildings, each with an average grade-level population of less than 100 students.
