Vermont Fresh Network 2017 Annual Report In June of 2017, Executive Director Meghan Sheradin left the Vermont Fresh Network to lead the Vermont Grass Farmers Association. Helen Labun joined the team as the new Executive Director. The 21st Annual Forum Dinner at Shelburne Farms had over 600 participants, including 83 VFN Partner Member businesses. We continued work on Lake Champlain fish with an expanded FishOn! Program, including both educational fishing trips for members and a public dinner at Basin Harbor in September celebrating land and lake. The third annual Open Farm Week was again a popular project, with over 100 agritourism events happening across the state. VFN and the DigInVT partnership received grant funding in 2017 to upgrade the DigInVT.com agricultural and culinary tourism website. We’re excited to launch the new site in February, 2018. In the fall, we began the Vermont Wine Project to increase Vermont wine sales at Vermont restaurants. The 2017 phase focused on winemakers – in 2018 we will be broadening the collaboration to bring in more wine buyers, distributors, and the dining public. VFN uses pilot projects to test ideas for future initiatives. In 2017 we explored opportunities in working with community meal sites, an industry-facing newsletter (Fresh Insider), sustainable fishing, and webinars on key professional development topics. Look for programs that build on this work in 2018. In addition to these specific projects, VFN continues our work promoting members through social media, managing DigInVT content, publishing the Fresh Feed e-newsletter, and representing members in important statewide policy discussions.
