2

roland uv flatbed printer IMPORTANT!! STOP! BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, TURN BOFA FILTER OF UV PRINTER ON!

3

roland uv flatbed printer 1. SETUP MEDIA at UV Flatbed Printer

1.1 Getting New Setup Media Screen : Hold SETUP key down. The screen will read NOW PROCESSING, then SETUP MEDIA. If you don’t see this on the LCD Screen you can’t do new media setup. NOTE The machine remembers previous media settings, if those settings were yours, you don’t have to setup your media again. It is a good idea to take a note of your settings after you finish as well if you are going to use the same material to print on in the future.

1.2 Press SETUP Key once when LCD screen says SETUP MEDIA This will start the media setup process. In this process you will manually input 3 pieces of information about your material : Height : Refers to the Height of the flat bed. You have to adjust it so the distance between the print head and your material is around 1mm. Scan/Feed : Refers to the [0,0] - [x,y] - location of your printing area (or your material), meaning the starting point. The default 0,0 is in the lower right corner of printing area.

Width/Length : Refers to the full size of your print. The machine is setup as this point is on the left upper corner of your printing area (or your material). By adjusting this point, you get the width and length of the material registered.

5

1.3 Adjusting the Height : Place your material aligning it with the right lower corner of the flatbed. Press [IN] key to push the flatbed into the Head Gap Sensor, aligning your material right under it so you can see the distance between them. If your material is very thick and looks like it will hit the Head Gap Sensor, lower the flatbed using TABLE [DOWN] key before pushing the table in under the Head Gap Sensor. IMPORTANT : This is the only time you can keep the front cover open, to be able to see accurately what you are doing. At all other times front cover must be closed. Cursor keys will make the flatbed move continuously if you hold them down. If you need to adjust in small increments, it is better to press them in short strokes.

Press TABLE [UP] key to adjust the distance between Head Gap Sensor and your material. This distance should be around 1mm for a great print resolution. 6

When you are happy with the distance, quickly press [ENTER] key (if you don’t do this quickly, the machine will go back to it’s previous settings and you have to start all over) Congrats you set up the Height!

7

roland uv flatbed printer 1.4 Adjusting Scan & Feed : Close the front cover and continue the process. The LCD screen will read SCAN/FEED with numbers next to it. This is the starting point of your printing area. If you placed your material at that (0,0) corner of the flatbed you don’t have to adjust these numbers.

Press any cursor key to activate the Printing Head. It will travel to the previous SCAN/FEED location. You will see a laser pointed on your material, see below. From there you can move the laser by pressing cursor keys to the corner of your printing area (or material).

Press [ENTER] key, quickly so the machine doesn’t go back to the previous settings.

Congrats you set up the Scan/Feed!

1.5 Adjusting Width & Length : The LCD Screen will read WIDTH/LENGTH, press any cursor key to activate printing head. It will travel to the previous settings shining the laser on flatbed. By pressing Cursor keys, move the laser to the left up corner of your printing area (or material). You will see the numbers changing on the LCD screen reading your print area size. ***If you already know the exact size of your printing area/material, you can simply use the cursor keys to get to these numbers on the LCD Screen. Remember it can move in small intervals for accurate alignment.

When you see your laser pointing to the left upper corner of your printing area/material. Press [ENTER] key quickly.

9

Congrats you set up the Width & Length! Next the machine will home Flatbed and the Printing Head prepping for the print. The LCD screen will read NOW PROCESSING. Your media setup will be done once you see the LCD screen showing your printing area information of Width/Length and Height. See Below.

10

roland uv flatbed printer 2. SETUP VISUAL at ILLUSTRATOR FOR PRINTING AREA SIZE

This step will allow you to print an accurate size visual on your material even your original is much bigger than your printing area. This step will also help you to crop or adjust the ratio of your visual to get a good result on your printing area/material. You may have already adjusted your visual according your material beforehand, if so you can skip this step and move on to “3. Prepare Print Settings at Versaworks Software”.

2.1. Open your visual in Illustrator and create a new artboard same size as you gathered from Width & Length information of your printing area/material at the machine. See Below.

2.2 Copy your visual into the new artboard and scale or crop accordingly. New Artboard is the size of your printing area/material, so if you like to have a border on your print, you can adjust your visual accordingly on the artboard leaving white space around. Or you can decide to use a portion of your visual, however you see fit. This step allows you to visualize your final result without guessing.

11

roland uv flatbed printer 2.3 Save your visual using the artboard number, VERY IMPORTANT to keep the size of your print accurate. This way the visual you are saving will be inside the borders of your artboard from illustrator. • Save as .EPS • Make sure to check the box next to Use Artboard • Check your artboard number to save right visual • Enter artboard number to Range. • Hit Save. ***If you are doing multiple visuals on the same type of material. You can create multiple artboards with the same size, placing each visual and saving all of these artboards at once by using Range (for example Range: 1-4, will save 4 different documents with the numbers affixed to your file name). Easy right? :)

Your visual is ready to be printed now! All you have to do is to put print settings and adjust couple of 12 things at VersaWorks Software.

roland uv flatbed printer 3. PREPARE PRINT SETTINGS at VERSAWORKS SOFTWARE This is the last set of settings that you will be putting into the software to print. You have to make sure that your printing area and your visual is matching. You will be able to adjust the orientation of your print, select High Quality or Standard for print quality, adjust if you want to print CMYK or any additional layers of Gloss or White (remember to prepare those layers with the right versaworks swatch before saving your visual or you will not be able to print Gloss or White). 3.1 Open Versaworks and upload your file Click File Add Job to Queue A. Browse your file and open it (if some reason Queue A is giving you problems, you can always Add Job to Queue B).

3.2 Double Click on your file to open Settings Panel. You will be adjusting settings in Layout and Quality tabs.

13

roland uv flatbed printer

Click Get Media Width to get the Setup Media information form the machine to the software. Once you click that button your visual and your printing area will match up better. Check Fit to Media Size, because even the machine is pretty accurate on width and length information it still doesn’t show all the decimals, so there is always some little size difference that is reflected on the preview. You adjusted the size of your visual for the printing area before hand, so after hitting Fit to Media Size, everything should match up beautifully.

14

roland uv flatbed printer IMPORTANT : Print orientation is tricky because the top of your visual at the preview window will be printed at the bottom of your material. Meaning the (0,0) of your visual is at the top left corner in the preview window, but (0,0) of the flatbed is at the right lower corner. See Below to understand better.

One trick that you can use to make sure you always get what you see on the screen is Setting up your material in the orientation that you created your visual, then create your visual as always, in the same orientation, then at Versaworks software. You simply click Upside down buttons to turn your visual. Because it is hard to control how software flips the orientation, this is the easiest, no brainer trick that you can use. ***For any complicated flip, double sided prints, transparent material works make sure to print a test to understand completely how the machine orients things. Move to Quality tab to enter Resolution settings and Printing Mode. In this case Printing Mode is CMYK. There is no White layer or Gloss layer to be printed.

15

roland uv flatbed printer 4. Print : Settings Window will close after you click OK to save your printing settings. All you have to do at this point to make sure that the printer is Ready to Print. Click Print Icon. Software will RIP your visual first then start printing. The Machine always do a CLEANING sequence before starting the first print. LCD screen of the machine will read “CLEANING”. After cleaning sequence is finished, it will start to print immediately.
