In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the German Reunification, W&T Arts Promotion presents “The Sound Of Unity,”-Exhibit In Concert in New York at St. Peter’s Church on April 11, 2015 at 8 PM. With generous support from Stiftung Gedenkstätten Sachsen-Anhalt and Marienborn Memorial Museum in Germany, the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation and General Consulate of Germany in New York, acclaimed German young artists, violinist Sven Stucke and pianist Johann Blanchard perform a curated night of music in tandem with a visual story of the German Reunification. A reception showcasing the essence of German cuisine provided by some of the foremost German restaurants in NYC will be hosted immediately following the concert, as a platform for exchanging thoughts and ideas among the audience and our artists.

About The Event With a mission to explain and promote the important meaning behind the German Reunification, this upcoming event combines exclusive digital exhibition materials provided by Stiftung Gedenkstätten Sachsen-Anhalt with carefully programmed live music to replicate a neosilent film experience. With a focus on over 20 years of the Inner-German border development and the struggles of the East German people, the film reflects the political and social changes, which led to the breakdown of the Inner-German border and the peaceful Reunification. As a salute to the kinship between Germany and USA, a portion of the exhibit, provided by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation, illustrates the Berlin Blockade and the Airlift conducted by the US and the Victorious Allies, as well as the heart-melting “Candy Bomber”. Violinist Sven Stucke and pianist Johann Blanchard, whose artistry represent the top level of Germany, will present an electrifying concert tailored to the film featuring music from Germany and the Victorious Allies of WWII, including Beethoven, Shostakovich, Poulenc, Auerbach and John Williams among others.

Sven Stucke An active concertizing violinist, Sven Stucke has appeared with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Europe, United States and Asia. After winning the 2004 Louise-Henriette International Violin Competition, he received first prize in Queen Sophie Charlotte International Violin Competition in 2005, in which he was also awarded with “Scholoss Mirow” prize for Best Interpretation Of A Classical Composer. As the two-time winner of “Jugend Musiziert”(“Young Musicians Of The Year”) and the Hans And Eugenia Jütting Foundation Competition, he was selected to collaborate with the West German Broadcasting(WDR 3) for radio recordings. Sven Stucke has been a scholarship recipient of the Maggini Foundation, International Association of Wagner Societies(Richard Wagner Association Magdeburg), Associazione Intonarumori and Doms Stiftung. As the Young Artist of Villa Musica and Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Live Music Now, he has collaborated with worldwide renowned artists like Pinchas Zukerman, Vadim Gluzman, Rainer Honeck and Augustin Dumay. Highlights of his recent concert appearances include the solo recital at the European Parliament in Brussels in 2014 and his debut at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center 2013; This past summer he debut at Gezeiten Festival in Germany. Sven Stucke frequently records for RBB, WDR, MDR and SWR. Currently, Sven plays on a violin on loan by the Maggini Foundation in Switzerland and a bow made by Heinz Dölling.

Johann Blanchard During his study years, Blanchard held a fellowship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and received numerous prizes and distinctions at international competitions such as the Piano Campus in Pontoise/Paris, Palma d’Oro in Italy, Ferrol in Spain, and Unisa in South Africa. Johann Blanchard has concertized at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, in Prague and Paris, at the Musikverein in Vienna, in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Johannesburg, and at the European Classical Festival in the Ruhr, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Gezeitenkonzerte, L’Été Musicale in France, and Jewish Music Festival in San Diego. He has performed as a soloist with ensembles such as the Vorpommern Theater, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, and New Westphalian Philharmonic. On various occasions he has been heard live on the NDR Kultur radio program and on the ORF. In addition to his career as a soloist, Blanchard dedicates himself to chamber music and is heard in many different ensemble formations in this field. However, his own performing means little to him if he does not have the opportunity to share the enthusiasm that music inspires in him. Accordingly, his teaching commitments include instruction at the Schwerin Conservatory. Moreover, he is interested in other fields of music such as jazz and electronic music. He is recording for the Label MDG (Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm).

About The Exhibition The exhibition, “From Germany To Germany,” focuses on over 20 years of development of the innerGerman border and the struggles of the East German people, reflects the political and social changes of East Germany which led to the breakdown of the Inner-German border and the peaceful Reunification. Interviews about failed escape attempt at the Inner-German border and the consequences are provided exclusively as a special feature of the digitalized exhibition by Stiftung Gedenkstätten Sachsen-Anhalt. Materials of the Berlin Airlift is provided by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation.

Berlin Airlift Historical Museum Founded in 1988, the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of the greatest humanitarian/aviation event in history, The Berlin Airlift. The Foundation has preserved several aircraft used in the great event, including a Douglas C-54E and the Boeing C-97 (one of the only 2 left flying in the world today), and created "Flying Memorials and Classrooms" with the purpose of education. Inside the aircraft is a genuine museum dedicated to the Berlin Airlift, filled with artifacts, displays, and information explaining this all important event in recent history.
