UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA
April 11, 2013 Dear Students, The Shmulevitz Lab at the University of Alberta is recruiting two graduate students to investigate molecular aspects of cancer-killing (oncolytic) viruses. Our grand objective is to identify and explore novel viral and cellular factors important for viral oncolysis, and to exploit these factors for developing improved oncolytic therapies. If you are considering a graduate degree in molecular virology, please take a look at our website http://shmulevitzlab.weebly.com/ (recruitment is for projects 1 and 3 on the research page). We are a relatively new laboratory in the Medical Microbiology and Immunology Department (MMI, http://www.mmi.med.ualberta.ca/index.php) and are members of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology (LKSIV, http://likashingvirology.med.ualberta.ca/). The LKSIV and MMI department here at the University of Alberta have an immense collection of fascinating research projects in virology, immunology, and bacteriology. The projects in our lab combine virology, molecular & cell biology, protein structure/function analysis and cancer biology. I am hoping to find students that have a strong interest in these areas, as demonstrated by excellence in courses related to these fields. Interested students should also have some experience in a research laboratory such as honors and/or summer projects, and be able to provide reference letters from research supervisors upon request. If you are interested and/or wish to learn more, please contact me at
[email protected]. Interested students, please send your CV (including both academic and non-academic experiences), transcripts and a short description of your interests and ambitions. We strive for a very collegial and happy work environment, so I will also provide interested students with an opportunity to talk to trainees already in the Shmulevitz Lab. Sincerely,
Maya Shmulevitz
