University Profile Background of Institution Established as second university in the country in 1969. Known as university of Penang, before the University Act, 4th Oct 1971. USM main campus is located within a tropical island of Penang. There are 2 USM branch campuses: a. Kubang Kerian Kelantan b. Nibong Tebal Penang
