FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 12, 2017 New Hampshire’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2017 was 2.7 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the July rate which remained at 2.8 percent after revision. The August 2016 seasonally adjusted rate was 2.9 percent. Seasonally adjusted estimates for August 2017 placed the number of employed residents at 732,120, an increase of 30 from the previous month and an increase of 3,510 from August 2016. The number of unemployed residents decreased by 780 over-the-month to 20,020. This was 1,380 fewer unemployed than in August 2016. From July to August 2017, the total labor force decreased by 750 to 752,140. This was an increase of 2,130 from August 2016. The unadjusted August 2017 unemployment rate for New Hampshire was 2.6 percent, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the July rate which remained at 2.5 percent after revision. The August 2016 unadjusted rate was 2.8 percent. Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2017 was 4.4 percent, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the July rate, and a decrease of 0.5 percentage points from the August 2016 rate. The national unadjusted rate for August 2017 was 4.5 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the July rate, and a decrease of 0.5 percentage points from the August 2016 rate.
