Espoo, Finland, June 21, 2016 Aalto University invites applications for
TWO DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITIONS IN ACOUSTICS AND AUDIO SIGNAL PROCESSING The positions are located in the Department of Computer Science and in the Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics in Otaniemi (Espoo, Finland). We are looking for two doctoral students for the ICHO project (Immersive Concerts for Homes). The aim of the project is to bring the immersive concert experience to people's homes with the help of head-tracked headphones and sophisticated signal processing techniques. A live music concert will be recorded with a novel method, which captures the sounds of musical instruments and room acoustics separately. At the consumer’s side, the different signal streams are rendered together, resulting in a more authentic spatial sound reproduction than with traditional methods. Successful applicants must have an MSc degree in a related field, preferably in acoustics, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or computer science. In addition, any prior experience in audio signal processing and subjective testing is highly appreciated. The chosen persons are expected to apply for the right to pursue studies towards the degree of Doctor of Science in Technology at Aalto University. Minimum requirements: - A relevant MSc degree (with an MSc thesis) - Good knowledge of audio signal processing and/or subjective listening tests - Solid programming skills (Matlab) - Fluent written and spoken English In addition to the main research duties, the doctoral students will contribute to teaching and administrative activities, as instructed by the supervisor. The positions are immediately available, starting on September 1, 2016. The initial appointment will be for 1 year but can be continued to 4 years. The salary will be defined according to the Aalto University salary scheme. For additional information, please contact Prof. Vesa Välimäki or Prof. Tapio Lokki. To apply, please send an informal cover letter, a CV (pdf, including the MSc thesis title and a list of publications, if any), names and contact details of possible references, and an official transcript of records (pdf) to Prof. Vesa Välimäki [
