The Town of Lexington is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Kowalski, a resident of Arlington, to the position of Assistant Town Manager for Development for the Town of Lexington. Ms. Kowalski currently serves as the Director of Planning and Community Development for the Town of Arlington. As the Assistant Town Manager for Development, Ms. Kowalski’s responsibilities will include managing the operations of the following departments: Building & Zoning Administration, Conservation, Planning and Economic Development. She will provide oversight of the regulatory function and enforcement for land development and management which includes planning, land acquisition, land use, zoning, environmental and wetland protection, open space conservation, historic preservation, and housing initiatives. As a member of the Senior Management Team, Ms. Kowalski will participate in setting the direction for the municipal organization, to continually improve Town services, and appropriately allocate organizational resources across Town departments. Ms. Kowalski brings a rich career in municipal planning to the Town of Lexington. Since 2009, Ms. Kowalski has served as the Director of Planning & Community Development for the Town of Arlington. Before that she served as the first Director of Community Services for the Town of Reading. While serving in her position for the Town of Arlington, Ms. Kowalski guided the community through a multi-year public process to prepare a comprehensive long-range master plan and revived a complex urban renewal project to transform a former hospital site into a multi-use area for residential and recreational use.
