Tools and Techniques used in the creation of an interactive website There are various different tools at your disposal, which you can use to make your website interactive. I have included tools and techniques such as “Insert Image”, Links/Hotspots, Cascading Style Sheets and many others which I will go through now.

Insert Image – This tool is used to insert any kind of image file on the website. This is a very important tool as it helps to make the website visually engaging by catching the user’s attention and makes it a bit more interactive and interesting. In order to insert an image, you can go to Insert Image which is the second button from the top.

Hotspot – Hotspots work almost the same as links, although instead of hyperlinking the text, you do so for an image. This is useful if you want to make the user go to the “Home” page when they click on a logo for example. This is a standard design process on most websites too, as it makes the website more interactive. To hotspot an image, you need to click on the image that you wish to link and go to the bottom left corner where you will see 3 small square buttons representing 3 different shapes. You can then choose from one of them, depending on the shape of the image and where/how you wish to hotspot it.

Link – By using Links, you can make a text hyperlinked, which allows you to go to a different part of the website or open up a file when clicked on. In order to make any text hyperlinked in Dreamweaver, you have to highlight the part you want to make as a link then right-click on the highlighted part and go down along the table until you reach “Make Link”. You can then specify where you want the link to take you when clicked on.

Cascading Style Sheets – The CSS let you edit and create rules for how you want certain text to look like, whether it’s size, font, colour, boldness or any other options which you wish to define/change. You can apply those CCS’s to any text by highlighting it, clicking on HTML which is located in the bottom left “Properties” box and changing the “Class” section. In order to edit and/or create a rule (Define fonts, sizes etc.) you have to click on CSS which is below the HTML button and clicking on edit rule.

Tables – The table allows you to make the website’s layout consistent throughout, it makes sure all the buttons, images etc. are aligned and in correct positions throughout the pages. You can insert a table anywhere on the page by going to Insert Table. You can also adjust the table and move it around when you first insert it.

Data Form – Data forms allow the user to submit certain information. That could be to submit an order, get in contact with the company or if the user has any queries regarding a product and/or service. Dreamweaver allows to do that in a very simple and quick manner. You can input numerous form text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons and other useful options such as the submit buttons to submit the form. To insert the above mentioned tools, you can go to insert  Form and you can choose from the different tools from the drop-down menu.
