School-Parent/Guardian Compact The Ralph C. Mahar Regional School, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), and participating children and their parents/guardians, agree that this compact outlines how parents/guardians, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents/guardians will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. This compact is in effect during school year 2015-2016 School Responsibilities: The Ralph C. Mahar Regional School will: 1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows: All students will be provided with a standards-based curriculum aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Lesson will be differentiated to meet the needs of all learners and students will be afford opportunities to seek additional support to master the curriculum via response to intervention support (RtI) at the middle school level and supplemental courses at the high school level. In addition, after-school support will be provided to students each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:10 – 3:00 during scheduled office hours. In addition, qualifying students will have the opportunity to receive supplemental services via Title I in English language arts and mathematics from highly qualified teachers and paraprofessional during their school day. This support may be in the form of in-class and/or supplemental classes. Parents will be notified in the fall, in writing, if their child qualifies for Title I supplemental services. Qualification will be based on academic needs as a result of State and school assessments, classroom performance, and teacher recommendation. 2. Hold parent/guardian-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held: in the Fall during Parents’ Night, in the Spring during Parents’ Night, and by parental request.
3. Provide parents/guardians with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: Parents will be informed about their child’s progress on a regular basis via quarterly report cards, and Title I progress monitoring in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. 4. Provide parents/guardians reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents/guardians as follows: Staff will be available for contact with parents weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday from 2:10 – 3:10. If parents/guardians are unable to meet with staff at these times they should call the school and schedule a mutually convenient time to meet with their child’s teacher(s). 5. Provide parents/guardians opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: Please contact the school to discuss volunteer opportunities or willingness to serve on school based teams and committees. The school will send out notifications to parents/guardians regarding serving on teams and committees as opportunities arise. If you wish to observe specific classroom activities, please contact your child’s guidance counselor to discuss this matter. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities: We, as parents/guardians, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
