Goldendale Middle School Goldendale Public Schools Title I School Parent and Family Engagement Policy The entire staff of Goldendale Middle School believes the education of each child is a partnership between the parents/guardians, the student and the school staff. This partnership is documented in the GMS Home-School Compact that is discussed with and signed by students, parents/guardians and staff at the start of each school year. The GMS School Community believes active parent/guardian involvement greatly enhances student success and a positive school atmosphere. Therefore, continual opportunities for parent involvement are provided continuously throughout the school year.
Policy Guidelines Annual Grade Level Parent-Teacher Curriculum Meetings and Open House are held within the first two weeks of school. At this event, parents/guardians meet the teacher, learn about grade level content area expectations and benchmarks, classroom procedures and expectations, how to contact the classroom teacher and opportunities to volunteer in the classroom. It is also a chance to learn about College Now and how to join and contribute to the work PTA does. GMS also implements Navigation 101 at grades 7 and 8 and seeks parents as resources through that venue. Parent student teacher conferences take place by the end of the second month each year. Annual Title One Parent/Guardian Meeting. At this meeting the following information is shared with parents/guardian: Description of researched based intervention programs that are being used for Title I services. Assessments within Read 180, IXL.com, Accelerated Reader, and STAR Reading and Math are also shared. Explanation of the differing levels of parent involvement opportunities throughout the year. Title One Parent Representative on School Improvement Team. The Goldendale Middle School Improvement (Leadership) Team is comprised of representative parents/guardians, and staff. Their purpose is to review and discuss progress on school improvement, invite discussion, brainstorming ideas of how to improve communication to parents through bulletins, the website, etc. The Leadership Team continually maintains a focus on the following indicators of school quality: instructional program, support for learning, school climate and parent/guardian school relationships. Explanation of and Signing of the GMS Home-School Compact is done annually with all students and with parents at Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. Individual Student Fall and Spring MAP/SBA and other testing Performance Profiles are shared with students and parents at parent meetings and Fall/Spring conferences, along with a letter written explaining assessments to parents and guardians. Twice Monthly Parent Bulletins include information about what is happening at school and how parents can become involved. These are available online at https//:sites.google.com/a/gsd404.org/gms-administration/. Conferences are held in the fall and spring to personally share student progress, address student learning plans, and address any concerns or questions.
