January 31, 2014 Dear Parents, Tomorrow we are starting the brand new month of February. Our weather has continued to be very cold which is not allowing the children to get outside much and work off their energy. They’re saying that snow is on the way and that the temps are going to rise a little! Winter in Maine is not over yet. It’s still important to remind the children to dress accordingly. Report cards are going home today. Please sign your child’s report card envelope and return the envelope to school as soon as possible. There are lots of school & community events coming up and we’ll try our best to keep you posted on all of these activities. Here are a few reminders for the upcoming weeks. Groundhog Day - On Sunday, February 2nd, the world's most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, might see his shadow predicting that this winter weather might or might not last. Hang in there, according to CNN, Punxsutawney Phil is only 39% correct. According to legend, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring. Which one are you rooting for?! Infinite Campus Portal - To decrease the need to handle cash & checks, parents are strongly encouraged to open an online payment account through the Campus Portal. Parents use Campus Online Payments with the highest level of confidence. All of the transactions go through a Payment Card Industry (PCI) Level 1 compliant payment vendor. Infinite Campus has formed a strategic alliance with this vendor to provide the highest security rating available. Payment methods accepted: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, eCheck. Each transaction will include a $2.00 transaction fee. Please call the school if you have never logged in to Infinite Campus and need login instructions. Thank you. Never Too Late to Learn - Oak Hill Adult Education will be offering a Cooking with Sea Vegetables class on Tues., Feb. 25th. Come learn about the many benefits of cooking with seaweed and try some delicious recipes! We will also be offering a Hunter's Safety class beginning Wed., Mar. 19th. Call 375-6605 or email Mandy at
[email protected] for more information! Meals & Snacks at School - The Food Service Program provides breakfast and lunches daily for the children. Breakfast is available each day for $1 (free & reduced are FREE), lunch is $2.50 daily and reduced lunch is 40 cents. A variety of chilled milk and juices are part of the breakfast & lunch meals and also available at 35 cents each for children's cold lunches. We encourage you to send in nutritious snacks for the children each day. We will always provide you with copies of the breakfast & lunch menus prior to the start of a new month. Thank you.
Tooth Protectors at L-T - This will be happening at the Libby-Tozier School on Mon., Feb. 3rd and Tues., Feb. 4th. February is Dental Health Month. If you can bring a signed form (and payment if necessary) on Monday, you can be added to the list and be seen by Tooth Protectors. This a great opportunity to protect your child’s teeth with a smile to last a lifetime. Thank you. Being on Time is Important - This is a reminder to parents of our primary school start times. Sabattus Primary School starts at 8:20 and Libby-Tozier starts at 8:40. Getting to school on time is extremely important. Coming in late disrupts the class, sometimes affects our daily attendance, lunch counts and children often miss (or partially miss) speech, specials or Title I reading supports. Please help them to be on time for their school day. Thanks! RSU #4 PTA News - Just a reminder that this parent support group for our children in grades Pre-K thru 8 will be meeting in 2 weeks on Mon., Feb. 10th at Sabattus Primary School library at 6:30 PM in the office conference room. There’s always room for interested parents from Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales. Please join us as new members are always welcome! Your willingness to volunteer in our schools is always appreciated by both the children and the staff. Not Too Late for the Father Daughter Dance - Sabattus Recreation Club's Oak Hill Youth Cheering Program will be hosting a Semi-Formal Father Daughter Dance on Sat., Feb. 8th at Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield. Dancing and concessions will run from 6-8 PM with live DJ Corey Creamer to keep the party alive. Raffle items, 50/50 and concessions will be available. Sarah Landry Photography will also be offering professional portraits of dad's and their princesses! You can purchase tickets online (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fatherdaughter-dance-oak-hill-youth-cheering-tickets10129649053). Dad's may bring as many daughters as they would like for one ticket price of $25. Save the Date - Please mark your calendars for another exciting evening of stories and activities coming the week after February vacation at the Libby-Tozier School. The Libby-Tozier Literacy Initiative Committee is sponsoring "Passport Around the World" on Thurs., Feb. 27th from 6-7:00 PM in the school gym. Students, their adult(s), and siblings please join us in traveling around the world. Each Libby-Tozier student that attends will receive a make-believe passport with their picture and a free book. We look forward to seeing you then! How Does Summer Time Sound? - Our camp is located in RSU #4 and is open to all K-8 grade students and non-residents are also permitted to attend. We are an all day camp which opens at 7 AM and closes at 5:30 PM. This might be an early notice with snow outside but Camp 44 will be offering a discounted price of $600 per child which is a $200 savings. Start saving those pennies. Deadline for this great discount is Thurs., May 1st. If there are any questions or school related concerns, please feel free to call me any time at school. Thank you. Brian Albert, Principal
