THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF LATVIA (ISL) WAS FOUNDED IN 1994 AND IS AN INDEPENDENT CO-‐EDUCATIONAL, NON-‐PROFIT, COLLEGE PREPARATORY DAY SCHOOL. ISL OFFERS AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN OF ALL NATIONALITIES FROM 3 YEARS TO 18 YEARS OF AGE. THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY ISL has enjoyed rapid growth within the past two years, and today has a purpose-‐ built, state-‐of-‐the-‐art campus. Our campus serves over 350 students Preschool 3 through Grade 12. Currently, the student body is composed of 34 naPonaliPes. ISL FACULTY The ISL faculty consists of 46 teachers from Australia, Canada, Germany, Latvia, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom. ISL offers a student-‐faculty raPo of 4 to 1 with an average class size of 16. MISSION ISL is an English-‐language IB world school serving the internaPonal community. ISL strives for academic excellence; and to prepare its students for successful life-‐long learning, to think criPcally and creaPvely, to act with integrity and responsibility, and to appreciate human diversity. IB WORLD SCHOOL ISL is an InternaPonal Baccalaureate World School offering all three IB programs: Primary Years (Preparatory-‐Grade 5), Middle Years (Grade 6-‐10) and the Diploma Program (Grades 11 & 12). Students in Grades 9-‐12 follow a college-‐preparatory program leading to the IB Diploma or the ISL Diploma. CO-‐CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ISL offers a vast array of sporPng, service, cultural and personal enrichment acPviPes. Among them: Speech and Debate, Student Council, Knowledge Bowl, Russian Club, Newspaper, and student-‐led acPviPes: Children’s Hospital Visits, Orphanage Service Group, and the “Run for the Kids” benefit.

Academic Program THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME AT ISL The InternaPonal Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme is a challenging two-‐year curriculum, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualificaPon that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universiPes. To be awarded the IB Diploma, a student must earn a minimum of 24 points in 6 areas (three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level). In addiPon, students must complete 150 hours of CAS (CreaPvity, AcPon, and Service) acPviPes, the Theory of Knowledge course and write an original 4,000 word research paper (Extended Essay). IB examinaPons are wrioen and scored by the InternaPonal Baccalaureate OrganizaPon. Scores range from 7 (highest) to 1 (lowest).

THE ISL DIPLOMA To be awarded an ISL diploma, a student has to attend ISL for at least one academic year and be registered in all subject groups of the program. The ISL Diploma is equivalent to a United States high school diploma. Class Rank Due to the nature of our student body and the diversity of educaPonal backgrounds from which our students come, it is difficult to provide an accurate or fair class rank. Grade calculaPons are based solely on grades earned at ISL and may include anywhere from one to four years of work. Academic Documentation EVALUATION The school conforms to the InternaPonal Baccalaureate system with grades ranging from 7 (highest) to 1 (lowest). For the Theory of Knowledge (ToK) course, grades are given on an A-‐E scale. No intermediate (+) or (-‐) grades are given. This grading system is used for all internal assessment, external assessment, and for transcripts. HL and SL are designated for Higher Level and Standard Level courses within the IB Diploma Program. Only semester grades appear on the transcript.
