You have likely noticed that this issue of The Informer covers two weeks instead of just one week. From now through August, this will be the norm. For this summer trial period, we’ll be sending The Informer out to you every other week instead of every week. We are doing this for two reasons: 1. The extra time will allow our Church Administrator, Janet Skinner, to accomplish many other clerical tasks that are continually pushed to the “back burner” because of time constraints. 2. Cost savings. Publishing and mailing The Informer is an expense of approximately $75.00/issue. Over the course of the next four months, from now through August, we will save about $600.00. Be assured that every issue of The Informer over the next four months—published every other Thursday—will still have up-to-date announcements; full listings of birthdays and anniversaries; and information about all of our services and activities. And remember that you can always keep up with what’s going on in our church by visiting our website at www.edentonbaptist.org. The website is updated regularly, including a calendar where you can find all of our services and events listed for each month. You can also follow Edenton Baptist Church on Facebook. Give us your feedback. Share your thoughts about The Informer with our deacons and church staff. Let us know if a two-week Informer is sufficient or inadequate. And let us know other ways in which we can communicate more clearly and effectively with you about the life of our church. Your pastor, David

Hymn Sing & Refreshments on May 20, 7:00pm Come to the sanctuary on Sunday, May 20, at 7:00pm, to enjoy singing some wonderful hymns from our new Celebrating Grace Hymnal. We’ll sing some well-known and familiar hymns, and Michael Morgan and Jackie Copeland will introduce us to some new hymns. We will also dedicate our new hymnals and give thanks for everyone who gave hymnals in memory or honor of their loved ones. New Church Directories are now available in the back hallway!

THANKS, GARY! Many thanks to Gary Swanner who handcrafted a new wooden top for our communion table that we were able to use last Sunday. This larger tabletop provides much-needed space for our deacons to serve the bread and the cup to our congregation whenever we share the Lord’s Supper together.

Wednesday • May 23 • 6:30pm Join us for presentations from all of the children’s mission groups and choirs! Songs from “All Creation Sings” will show our wonderful curriculum, which used Bible verses, Hymns, foreign languages, instruments, and movement!

Homes & Hospitals Offering in May Throughout the month of May, we take this special offering for the ministries of the Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Baptist Retirement Homes of NC, and the benevolence fund of Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. A special envelope is included in this newsletter. One is also included in your box of regular envelopes. The total amount received to date is $1,005.00.

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM OUR DEACONS In their May 6 meeting, our deacons voted unanimously to recommend the following expenditures from our Gifts and Memorials Fund.  Contribution to CBFNC New Church Starts – A total of $9,680 was spent to purchase the new Celebrating Grace hymnals. Following our tradition of tithing on purchases of items for our own use as a church, our deacons rounded up the tithe to $1,000 and recommend that $1,000 be given to New Church Starts in North Carolina that are sponsored and supported by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of NC. To learn more about these new church starts, visit http:// cbfnc.org/missions/new-church-starts-.  Outfield Sign at Hicks Field – Affirming a recommendation from our Outreach Committee, our deacons recommend that our church spend $1,100 to purchase a custom-made 8’x8’ advertisement sign that will be located on the left field wall at Hicks Field. The sign will include a picture of our sanctuary dome, our church name, our phone number, and our website address. These two recommendations will be presented to our congregation for consideration at our next church conference on Wednesday, May 16, 6:30pm. The current balance of our Gifts and Memorials Fund is $91,341.61 as of 4/30/18.
