Superhero For a Week Now that I’ve had a moment to catch my breath from the rush of Vacation Bible School, I’d like to give you an update on how Hero Central operated at EBC. The week’s theme was Hero Central, as all 101 kids who visited learned how they can be God’s heroes in the world. I had the privilege of portraying Captain Shield and leading our opening and closing assemblies each day. But it’s important for me to note that I was certainly not the only hero around EBC throughout the week. I could name 44 volunteers (listed here) who were superheroes for these children, too. From decorations to Bible story to snacks, crafts, recreation, and more, all our volunteers were essential in the success of this year’s program. Over the course of the week, we also focused on helping meet the needs of boys and girls at Baptist Children’s Homes across North Carolina, and this is where I saw heroes in our midst in the faces of the visiting children. Our pre-K-6th graders raised $525 to help children just like them - a noble and heroic effort that shows how much they and their families wanted to help such a worthy organization. VBS is over and the curriculum has been put away, so I think we can all take our capes off - but keep them handy. Now that I’ve seen how heroic this church can be when we all work together and follow God’s voice, you never know when another call for help may come! A special thanks to our terrific VBS volunteers: 
