Who is Khadija (ra)? Khadīja bint Khuwaylid also known as AmeeratQuraish (Princess of Quraish), al-Tahira (the Pure One), and Khadija Al-Kubra (Khadija the Great (circa 555–619 CE) was the first wife of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Khadija was a successful business woman and managed her father's (Khuwaylid ibn Asad) business simultaneously as she preserved family assets. Khadija was a successful philanthropist who invested in caring for the the poor, providing financial support to both relatives and unmarried members of her tribe. Khadijah met Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in 595 C.E, who was then 25 years old and sent him with her caravan to Syria that year. Upon the return of the caravan, Khadija got to know of Muhammad's performance and the honorable way that Muhammad conducted his business. Khadijah was impressed by his morals and as a result offered him a marriage proposal. They married that year, when she was 40 years old while Muhammad was 25 years old. Khadijah was a supportive pillar to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) during his years of ministry, times of war, and times of illnesses. She was a professional advisor, she maintained the household, and was an exemplary mother to the Prophet’s children. Khadija Conference 2012 15-16 June 2012, Friday and Saturday
