IoT Hackathon 2015 Lisbon 1. Introduction and Goal 1.1 - The IoT Hackathon is an initiative promoted by UNINOVA, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa and IoT Forum, looking forward the conception, developing and promoting ideas related to Internet of Things (IoT), especially in Portugal.

Looking up with this initiative to promote the creation of prototypes which are distinguished by their characteristics in terms of innovation, functionality, design, usability, performance, etc.

2. Organization 2.1 - The IoT Hackathon is organized by a group of Electrical and Computer Engineering students (NEEC) in partnership with the UNINOVA, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL) and the IoT Forum.

3. Facilities and Infrastructure 3.1 - The IoT Hackathon will be held at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, on 16th and 18th of June. 3.2 – The participants will agree that the facilities and infrastructure will be used exclusively for the Hackathon related activities and no one others. 3.3 – The organization will ensure the adequate technical infrastructure needed to accomplish the goals for this event, such as Wi-Fi coverage, workspaces and electricity. 3.4 –The participants should bring the technology-related equipment and materials they deem necessary (eg: laptops, electronic devices, etc.). 1

3.5 – The organization will ensure basic food supplies (water, coffee and snacks) for

every participant during the event lifetime.

4. Application 4.1 – The participants should have more than 18 years old to be eligible to participate. 4.2 – To participate in this event you will need a team with a maximum number of four people, three developers/hackers and one host.

4.3 – Only one application will be accepted for each team.

4.4 – The application should be submitted in the website of the event, fulfilling all the information required in the application form.

4.5 – The registration will end on the 31th of May 2015.

4.6 – Application will be accepted from any organization entity or participants from IoT Hackathon organization.

4.7 – Submitting your application will not ensure participation in this event.

4.8 – All applications will be checked by IoT Hackathon organization. The participants of this event will be selected based on given information.

4.9 – The participation will be confirmed between 9th and 12th of June 2015.

4.10 – All information given by participants will remain confidential and only be consulted by the organization commission and the Judge.

5. Competition Layout 5.1 – The IoT Hackathon is a competition for prototype developments related with IoT, with a marathon layout of 48 hours (24 hours will not be in Centro de Congressos de Lisboa). 5.2 – Additional technical requirements may be announced until the beginning of the marathon.

5.3 – At the beginning of the event will be given a mistery box which will have sponsor’s technologies.

5.4 – One of the requirements will be the use of, at least one, the technologies that will inside the mistery box.

5.5 – The submitted idea may focus on any subject but should respect every condition on Clause 9 of this document (Terms and Conditions).

5.6 – This will be a 48 hours duration event (starting at 8 a.m. on 16th of June 2015), the first 36 hours will be used for development and perfecting prototypes.

5.7 – After the previous period we will have the presentations of thirty prototypes conducted by the participants. This phase will have the duration of two and half hours. The layout and the requirements for the presentations will be announced until 7 of June 2015.

5.8 – This event will end with the final appreciation from the Judge and it will have approximately half an hour duration. The five major awards will be selected accordingly with the criteria on Clause 7.1.

6. Judge 6.1 – The Judge will be consist of notable national and international people from the

community of Internet of Things that will be in the event. 6.2 – One of the Judge members will be assigned the President role, which has the responsibility to coordinate all other judges as well as his own specific task referred on 6.3 of this document. 6.3 – The judges’ decisions will be made by vast majority, leaving to the Judge’s President the casting vote.

7. Selection of Winning Ideas 7.1 – The evaluation criteria of IoT solutions will be: -

Originality and innovation;

-

Design and interface;

-

Usefulness/Practicality;

-

Business Potential;

-

Technical implementation.

7.2 – The winners will be only elected by the Judge, not having any external influences from the organization entity, partners or IoT Hackathon 2015 Lisbon’s sponsors.

8. Prizes 8.1 – There will be prizes for the winning teams (announcing soon). 8.2 – The payment of any taxes or contributions respecting the prize awards is the fully responsibility of the organization entity.

8.3 – The prizes will not be money.

8.4 – The prizes delivery will be given on 18th of June at 12 to 13 p.m. after the winners announcement in IoT Week 2015 Lisbon.

9. Terms and Conditions 9.1 – The application for IoT Hackathon 2015 Lisbon will ensure the full acceptance of this document. 9.2 – The participants will agree with following conditions: 9.2.1 – The ideas should not have any sexual references, violence or ethnic group discrimination, racial, religious or pornographic content. 9.2.2 – The ideas should not promote illegal drugs or fire-arms (or using any of the previous), or any activity that may have insecure, dangerous or political implicit messages. 9.2.3 – The ideas should not be dirty or offensive, or support any form of hate, or any depreciative comments against the organization, its products, services, or the people’s product or enterprise. 9.2.4 – The ideas should not have copyrights materials or third party propriety (including photographs, sculptures, paintings or any other work of art or images published on websites, TV, movies or other medias). 9.2.5 – The ideas should not contain any names, images, photographs or evidences of any person identification, dead or alive, without authorization of them. 9.2.6 – The ideas should be original, not having been previously published or licensed, or having won any initiative of the same kind as IoT Hackathon 2015 Lisbon. 9.2.7 – The participants declare and ensure that the publication of the participation by several means, including internet publishing does not infringe third party rights.

9.2.8 – If the organization has reason to suspect unfair, misleading or fraudulent conduct by any participant or third party, whatever its nature is, the organization reserves the right to disqualify anyone who considers on the reasonableness of character, be responsible for or be associated with this inappropriate behavior.

9.3 – The organization reserves the right to change or cancel the event at any time by sending a notice by e-mail to participants who have already submitted your application, and placement of warning on the website. 9.4 – Cancelling the event does not confer the right to any compensation for that fact.

9.5 – The organizer of the event entity undertakes to comply with the legally established with respect to data privacy and use of private character information. In particular , participation in the IoT Hackathon means you agree to the following points: 9.5.1 – All data received in the application will be written in the organizer database and can be used to contact in case of other initiatives and events organized by UNINOVA , FCT -UNL and/or NEEC in the future. 9.5.2 – Participants accept the disclosure of their participation (including the use of their image) in the media (news, photos, videos, etc.) and any other media to be used promoting the event.

9.5.3 – In accordance with the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act (Law No. 67/98 of 29 October), the candidates and participants may exercise their right of access, rectification and deletion of data, approaching the organization through the [email protected] e-mail.

9.5.4 – Under no circumstances this data will be transmitted to third parties without the prior consent of the owner thereof. 6

10. Ideas ownership 10.1 – The ideas and prototypes in competition developed and presented in the context of this event are the property of their authors, in compliance with legally established for copyright and industrial property.

11. Doubts and Suggestions 11.1 – To answer any questions, candidates and participants should first consult the information on the website of the event. 11.2 – For any additional information or to submit any suggestions, please contact via [email protected] email.

11.3 – In all silent, the decision is up to the organization, mentioned in Clause 6 of this document.

11.4 – The organization has the right to change this document any time.

11.5 – The Judge's decision cannot be questioned or appealed.

12. Promoting and Organization Entities 12.1 - The UNINOVA – Instituto de Desenvolvimento de Novas Tecnologias, the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL) and the IoT Forum are the promoters of the event. The event is organized by a group of Electrical and Computer Engineering students (NEEC) in close collaboration with the UNINOVA, FCT-UNL and the IoT Forum.
