From the Principal… Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to Term 4 and a very warm welcome to our new families. Our Deepest Sympathy We extend our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts to the Beshay family on the recent and sudden passing of their mum, Marian. Welcome We welcome Mrs Lisa Suters as a permanent School Administrative Officer. Mrs Suters, who has been employed on a casual basis, is replacing Mrs Dawn Stubbs. Congratulations, Mrs Suters. MAPS Shining Stars and P&C Fete This week has commenced with class rehearsals for our Shining Stars Performance that will take place on Monday 16th October at Event Cinemas for our families. Next Friday, 20th October is our school fete. Many thanks to the P&C for their organisation to date. We look forward to a wonderful twilight fete. Congratulations Congratulations to Shane B who was part of the Sydney South West NSW PSSA softball team. The team played this week in the state carnival The team played 12 games resulting in 10 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Overall, the team was awarded a silver medal. As a result, Shane has been selected to be part of the NSW team that will play in Adelaide during December. Being selected for the NSW PSSA softball team is a great honour but this also comes at a significant cost. All students in the team have been given raffle tickets to sell with some great prizes. Shane’s mum will let us know arrangements for selling these raffle tickets and we will publicise these arrangements. Congratulations also to Ronan C, Ashlee T and Lachlan R on winning their respective sections in the Macarthur Zone Public Speaking competition. Also, congratulations to Lachlan’s brother Joshua R on being awarded runner up for the kindergarten section. Canteen Lease The tender for the school canteen lease was advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday 10th October and in the Macarthur Advertiser on Wednesday 11th October. Applications will close on Wednesday 1st November. School Calendar We encourage you to keep up to date with events that will be occurring this term. These events will be listed in the school calendar as well as on the front of each newsletter. Deputy Principal Position Due to the size of Mount Annan PS, we now qualify for a second deputy principal. This position has been advertised on Wednesday and will close in 2 weeks time. Once the interview process has been finalised, we will inform the community of the outcome. Have a great fortnight! Annette O’Neill Principal

From the Deputy Principals… Welcome back for Term 4. This term is shaping up to be extremely busy and I know an exciting term of learning for all students. Sport Photos Information regarding sports photographs has arrived at school. Letters from the photo company have been distributed to classes. Please keep your eye out for this letter. Kindergarten Orientation We are looking forward to our Orientation Sessions for Kindergarten coming up early next term. Session 1: 24th October, Session 2: 31st October and Session 3: 7th November. Please contact the office if you have not already returned your enrolment papers. Selective High School Applications Please see information in the link below regarding Selective High School applications for 2019. https://schoolsequella.det.nsw.edu.au/file/eafa8804-3a28-4730-9fc0-0ee49dd90f83/1/SHSapplication-information.pdf Mrs Suzanne Bowyer: Deputy Principal World of Maths Incursion This term in Weeks 4 and 5, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who have paid for their resource pack will attend a ‘World of Maths’ incursion to be held in our school hall. World of Maths is a unique traveling maths show that provides fun, colourful, hands-on problem solving activities designed for student participation. Students will attend one session, which will run for about 70 - 90 minutes and be held on the Monday and Thursday of Week 4 and 5. Each session will have a maximum of 60 students to allow for greater student participation. Students who have not paid for their resource pack will be unable to attend the incursion. If you are new to the school and are unsure about payment, please contact the office. Changes to the award system for 2018 Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Student Wellbeing information session in Week 9 of Term 3, as well as those who provided feedback through our parent survey online. At the information session we discussed proposed changes to our current award system. The proposed system discussed was created in consultation with staff and students. We received valuable feedback from our parents and carers and are currently finalising a more effective system for all. In the coming weeks we will share our award system for 2018 through the newsletter, website and Facebook. Watch this space! Rebecca Kehlet: Instructional Leader

Focus on MAPS… Student Leadership Our student and class leaders are looking forward to a productive and busy Term 4. We are currently in the process of transitioning from our old parliament to our new leadership format, and from 2018 our final change will take place. Starting next year, only Year 6 students will be eligible to be student leaders. There will be 10 student leaders (2 captains, 2 vice-captains and 6 prefects). Students in Years 2 to 5 will still be eligible to be class leaders. Our current Year 4 students and parents have been informed of this change via a letter home in Term 3. Later in this term, interested Year 5 students will be involved in student leader elections. More information about this process will be sent home to Year 5 in the coming weeks. Mrs Cathie Ratcliffe: Student Leadership Team Stage 3 Term 4 is shaping up to be an exciting term. The performance is fast approaching and all classes are doing a great job. We look forward to seeing many parents there. This term Stage 3 are developing their knowledge around Australian Democracy. Students are engaging in quality learning experiences in literacy and numeracy, and teachers have been collaborating on programs to ensure all students are catered to. Year 6 Farewell details will be shared with parents shortly. We are looking forward to another amazing evening. Signature Bear and Ball information has been shared via School eNews this week. Please ensure you get your order in early for this.
