Rethinking Education Why do some classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago? In this passionate talk, second grade teacher Kayla Delzer speaks about her mission to revitalize learning and the classroom environment. Kayla explains how to release the power in the classroom by giving students ownership of their learning and making it relevant to them. Breaking down the four walls of the classroom allows her students to become globally connected — and you won’t believe the endeavors her students conquer by embracing purposeful technology.

Thank you to our hosts at Aurora Public Schools Aurora Public Schools is proud to offer our Aurora students Apple iPad and Chromebook devices for use at school and at home. The 1:1 Program provides mobile computing and wireless technology to all Aurora Elementary, Middle School and High School students to enhance the delivery and individualization of instruction. Beginning in Kindergarten and through grade two students are 1:1 iPads. Students in grades three through five are 1:1 Chromebooks, with a cart of shared iPads at each grade level. Students in grades seven through ten are 1:1 iPads, while students in grades eleven and twelve have 1:1 accessibility with both iPad minis and Chromebooks.
Providing students with an individual device in a 1:1 wireless networked environment provides an opportunity to enhance the overall learning experience. The opportunity to use 1:1 devices gives students access to anywhere, anytime learning - in classrooms and at home. This 1:1 personalized learning also narrows the digital divide between students. The Aurora Initiative is meant to enable students to learn independently, collaborate with peers, and communicate their understandings using rich media. Ultimately, the goal of this effort is to help students strengthen the 21st century skills necessary for their success in the future as they learn each subject today.
