Teacher Quality Funding Request    Request Associated with: Attending a conference  Please list PLAEA members who are included in this request: Jennifer Prentice  Name of Supervisor: Lesa Nauss  What are the dates of this event? Thursday, October 1, 2015  What is the name of the event? : I-CASE 2015 Conference Design and Deliver High Quality Instruction for Learners with Disabilities: Planning & Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning  Where will this event take place? : Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn   Please give a short description of the event:  Design & Deliver: Planning & Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning (1st edition, 2014) Universal Design for Learning is the best way to teach all students effectively—USE UDL PRINCIPLES TO HELP STUDENTS:  sharpen executive function skills, such as goal-setting and strategy development  improve comprehension and information processing  stay engaged during lessons and overcome distractions  communicate effectively using multiple tools, including both high & low/no technology options  develop self-regulation a self-assessment skills  sustain effort and persistence  increase autonomy  show what they know through flexible, individualized assessment options

This request is connected to which agency goal? Literacy  What do you as an individual or team plan to learn?  I would use this as my role with Iowa Alternate Assessment and a member of the Significant Disabilities State Team - (Kris Taphorn my partner put in this request as well) 

  What will I (we) do with the learning?  To bring back to support teachers and staff with students on IAA. What will change or be different because of this learning? Knowledge of the principals of UDL: provide multiple means of representation, provide multiple means of action and expression, and provide multiple means of engagement. Is there anything else the committee should know to make a better informed decision?
