- NON PROFIT USE ONLY – Supplies: Dual Duty Plus® Button & Carpet Thread (the example shown is tatted using DDP) better choice of thread is C-Lon Micro Nylon Beading Thread, Thread Heaven, Black Tab Needle Threader, Toho Antiques or Delica machine-cut beads in 11/0, one 20mm x 15mm x 2mm Flat Oval slug or disk. Terminology: R = ring . (period) = close ring + (plus) = join 0 (orange zero) = one ring bead 0/10 = thread ten beads onto thread and place into ring prior to tatting first knot. 0² = two ring beads (0²A) = slide two ring beads into beaded picot A, tat next knot. 0³ = three ring beads (0³/0) = slide three ring beads into picot, slide thread bead into place, tat next knot. 0 (green zero) = one thread bead Pull 86 inches of thread from spool and cut. Wax thread. (Using an implement, pry wax out of plastic box, press the thread through wax three or four times. Wax thread often throughout project.) Measure 20 inches from end of thread, this will be considered the chain thread. All bar knots face the front of the work. C B D A E F

End by rethreading bead thread back through beads until you reach the back of the turtle motif. End by cutting thread close to bead.

Thoughts: I found that I had to not only tat tightly and consistently but bead in the same manner. It is very important to wax the thread and massage the wax into the thread. This helps not only condition the thread but makes it easier for the thread to slide through the knots and helps when closing a ring. Waxing of the thread also helps in keeping the thread from tangling and knotting when you don’t want the thread to knot. Check your knot count twice, close once. Let the first try be exactly that, the first try. If you don’t use the materials listed then don’t expect the same results. I would suggest that if you have not finger tatted or tatted with beads before, then you should download TATTING-BEADEDBUTTERFLY-EARRINGS-BOOKLET at Esnips.com. Try to tat/bead an earring first. If you are not having fun then this is not the pattern for you.
