Program Information

Why SSIP? The SSIP is a special 3 week program in English, designed for international students to learn about Japanese culture, and also collaborate with Japanese students. The SSIP allows you to feel completely integrated into a Japanese world through academic and sightseeing activities, short homestays with Japanese families and being in direct contact with your Japanese peers. You will experience the vibrant Tokyo lifestyle while exploring both contemporary and traditional Japan.

Program Schedule (Sample) *This is the actual schedule for 2014. Some lectures and field trips are subject to change. The SSIP consists of Japan Studies and a Cross-Cultural Workshop. Japan Studies allows students to learn about Japan through various lectures, field trips and cultural activities. The Cross-Cultural Workshop enables students to engage in a group project throughout the program.

What is the Cross-Cultural Workshop (CCW)? This Cross-Cultural Workshop will provide students an opportunity to work with Japanese students as well as other students from different countries with different backgrounds.Students will be introduced to basic information with lectures and exercises by a professional facilitator,followed by collaborative group work in several sections.Students will exchange ideas,engage in collaborative research and discussions,and present their findings to the class.

About SWU Showa Women’ s University in Tokyo,Japan was founded by the renowned poet and literary critic Enkichi Hitomi and his wife Midori in 1920, shortly after the First World War. Since the founding,its mission has been to educate women to become self-reliant and to take a significant role in society under the motto “Be a Light to the World.” Its campus is located in the center of Tokyo,5minutes from Shibuya,easily accessible to various tourist spots and other interesting sites.
