Message from Dena Henricks, CEOE IAEOP President, 2015-2017 “Professionalism. Achievement. Results, PAR through IAEOP.” Thanks to Ruth Burgess, Mary Guest, and Dena Henricks for submitting pictures. We had a great spring conference. We began with Anna Wright from Illinois State University giving an interactive workshop providing ways for all of us to be better listeners. If we become good listeners, we will be better communicators.

We enjoyed Deborah Carr Senger of Spirits of Bloomington and her presentation of “Sally the Gangster.” She was entertaining and brought many of us up to help with her stories from the roaring twenties including prohibition and the development of Route 66. She has been with us previously as “Helen Keller.” Picture of Deborah with Mitzy Widebeck. the BEACON

Erick Baer, Highland Middle School Principal, was back again with some more Google Apps tips and tricks. He always has some great ways to use technology and is willing to share with all of us.

Kip Heinle, Triad School District Resource Officer and Madison County Sheriff, shared safety tips while at school or anywhere. He also shared what to have in your emergency bucket at the office in case there was a disaster and you were trapped in your office. Some of the attendees went to the Mackinaw Valley Winery and learned what is involved with growing grapes and making wine. While others of us, stayed back and talked about office techniques as well as networking. Continued on page 2

MESSAGE TO NAEOP MEMBERSHIP FROM PRESIDENT PAT STELMACH

Theme: “Put Your Best Foot Forward”

We are family! | Executive Director

A

WELCOME

My theme this year has been “Put Your Best Foot Forward with NAEOP.” One might ask just how do you put your best foot forward? I don’t believe there is a tried and true way that fits one ad all. What works for one will not work for another. Just as we all are different with different preferences with the shoes we wear for an occasion, so it is with how we put our best foot forward. First, you must be true to yourself, your principles,, and your beliefs. Be the best educational office professional you can be. Be ready to say “yes” when asked can you, would you be able to help with a project? Be ready to listen to a a discussion and father all the facts, really listen to another person, before jumping in with your”two cents” worth. sometimes others have great ideas and how to implement them when given the opportunity to speak. Be of service in your work setting and in your community. Put your best foot forward through education. Be professionally involved. Network with other educational office professionals across the United States. Excerpts from President message in NES Connections , Spring 2016

MESSAGE FROM DEBBIE GEIB,, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

“We are Family”

As time nears, the 2016 NAEOP AnnualConference activities at the national office get even busier than usual. Lois is working on PSP applications, spending many hours talking to help those achieve this recognition. Jenny is working hard on mounds of paperwork on membership, conference registrations, affiliate applications, award applications, etc. Debra Jensen volunteers and helps at the office whenever needed. So what do I do as Executive Director of NAEOP? I help process membership applications and awards, process registrations, and work with all the board members and officers who have questions or issues, and respond to emails and calls from members. I am responsible for all of the monetary transactions on a daily basis, sending documentation to our CPA firm weekly, and handling all bills to be paid by the association and foundation. It is my responsibility for keeping the website updated and posting newsletters and items as they are sent to me. When you take a moment to recognize what kind of a day your team leader is having, you will learn to approach them accordingly.
