Stanislaus National Forest Forester GS 0460-7/9 POSITION: The Stanislaus National Forest is currently conducting outreach for a Forester GS 0460-7/9. This position is located on the Groveland Ranger District in Groveland, CA. The position will be filled as PERMANENT FULL TIME. Duties: The position serves as the District Timber Sale Administrator. This position supports the Resource

Management Program Leader in formulating and executing plans for the development and management of the timber resources on the unit. The primary responsibility is sale administration including contract administration, inspections, maintenance of sale records. Sections of the Groveland District burned this summer during the Rim Fire. Come be part of the restoration team working on hazard tree removal, salvage logging, reforestation, and protection/restoration of natural and archeological resources!!

GROVELAND RANGER DISTRICT ABOUT THE DISTRICT: The Groveland Ranger District office is located on Highway 120 eight miles east of the town of Groveland and fifteen miles west of the Big Oak Flat entrance to Cherry Lake Yosemite National Park. With 206,688 acres comprising the Groveland Cherry Creek – Emigrant Wilderness Ranger District, recreational activities include camping, fishing, hunting, backpacking, hiking, OHV riding, boating, and whitewater rafting on the exciting Wild and Scenic Tuolumne River. COMMUNITY INFORMATION: The historic gold rush town of Groveland is small and friendly, yet it is complete with a grocery store, pharmacy, library/museum, medical clinic, youth center and a variety of restaurants, hotels and shops. You will find churches of many denominations and a variety of service groups. Groveland’s Tenaya Elementary School covers grades K-8 and Tioga High School is grades 9-12. The Groveland’s Yosemite Chamber of Commerce website is a great resource for local information and community events. The Historic Gold Rush town of Groveland

Housing opportunities are changing. The best information on availability and cost can be obtained from local real estate and property management firms in the area. Pine Mountain Lake is a gated community and boasts a private lake, swimming pool, an 18-hole championship golf course, airport and horse riding stables. A good source of local and wider area community information can be found on the website maintained by the local newspaper the Union Democrat or the myMotherLode website.

Sonora is the largest full-service community within commuting distance of Groveland. Sonora is the county seat for Tuolumne County. The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce website is quite informative. Nearby Yosemite National Park provides year-round recreation and inspiration for both locals and international travelers. ABOUT THE FOREST: The Stanislaus National Forest totals approximately 1,090,000 acres within its boundaries. The Forest is bordered on the south by the Merced River and the Sierra National Forest. The Mokelumne River and the Eldorado National Forest comprise the northern border. Yosemite National Park and the Toiyabe National Forest make up the eastern boundaries. The Forest Supervisor’s Office is located in Sonora, California. The Forest’s four Ranger Districts, Mi-Wok, Calaveras, Summit and Groveland are within 45 minutes of the Supervisor’s Office. All of the Emigrant Wilderness is contained within the Stanislaus National Forest as Groveland Ranger District are portions of the CarsonOffice Iceberg and Mokelumne Wilderness Areas. The pristine and dramatic scenery offers a backdrop for outstanding hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding experiences. The Forest is home to a multitude of lakes and reservoirs, as well as 811 miles of rivers and streams and 18 fish species. The Tuolumne and the Stanislaus Rivers are popular destinations, as are Pinecrest and Cherry Lakes. Winter recreational opportunities are numerous and the area abounds with local history from the Gold Rush Era.
