STAFF​ ​INVOLVEMENT​ ​IN​ ​DECISION-MAKING Background The​ ​district​ ​believes​ ​that​ ​a​ ​school​ ​system​ ​functions​ ​best​ ​when​ ​there​ ​is​ ​a​ ​continuous​ ​exchange of​ ​ideas​ ​and​ ​pertinent​ ​information​ ​among​ ​all​ ​groups​ ​within​ ​the​ ​system.​ ​Employees​ ​at​ ​various levels​ ​have​ ​decision-making​ ​authority​ ​and​ ​influence​ ​appropriate​ ​to​ ​their​ ​position.​ ​Staff involvement​ ​in​ ​decision-making​ ​means​ ​that​ ​employees​ ​are​ ​given​ ​the​ ​opportunity​ ​to​ ​provide input​ ​to​ ​those​ ​who​ ​are​ ​accountable​ ​for​ ​making​ ​a​ ​particular​ ​decision. Procedures 1. Every​ ​employee​ ​in​ ​the​ ​district​ ​has​ ​the​ ​opportunity​ ​to​ ​participate​ ​in​ ​district-level decision-making,​ ​however,​ ​it​ ​is​ ​expected​ ​that​ ​employees​ ​will​ ​proceed​ ​through​ ​the recognized​ ​administrative​ ​channels. 1.1

The​ ​recognized​ ​administrative​ ​channel​ ​for​ ​this​ ​participation​ ​is​ ​the​ ​immediate​ ​superior of​ ​the​ ​employee​ ​or​ ​the​ ​designated​ ​chair​ ​of​ ​a​ ​district-established​ ​administrative committee.

Employees​ ​are​ ​to​ ​provide​ ​input​ ​commensurate​ ​with​ ​their​ ​roles​ ​and​ ​responsibilities.

2. All​ ​communications,​ ​including​ ​formal​ ​reports​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Board,​ ​any​ ​Committee​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Board,​ ​or individual​ ​trustee​ ​from​ ​any​ ​employee,​ ​including​ ​any​ ​union​ ​association​ ​or​ ​representative, shall​ ​be​ ​first​ ​submitted​ ​to​ ​the​ ​chief​ ​superintendent​ ​through​ ​recognized​ ​administrative channels. 2.1

The​ ​chief​ ​superintendent​ ​shall​ ​have​ ​sole​ ​authority​ ​in​ ​determining​ ​how​ ​the​ ​submission shall​ ​be​ ​handled​ ​and​ ​if​ ​it​ ​is​ ​to​ ​be​ ​forwarded​ ​to​ ​trustees.
