We gather today as God’s beloved children to worship our Heavenly Father. We praise his holy name, we listen eagerly for his words of comfort, hope, and challenge to us, and we offer ourselves to him in dedicated service. May you be blessed as you worship here today.

tion of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (E.L.C.A.). It is referred to as “Borchers” since Rev. Henry Borchers, who served our congregation from 1857-1881, advised and influenced a small group of pioneer settlers that wanted to establish a congregation in the area. This year we celebrate 166 years of life and ministry in this beautiful country setting in Southern Indiana. We look forward to many more years of growth and change as we seek continually to be faithful to God’s call to mission.

Those who abide in his word and love would bear fruit, for apart from him, they could do nothing. ‘From Sunday & Seasons, copyright 2017 Augsburg Fortress’ Questions To Ponder: 1— Why do you think the Isaiah passage was so provocative for the Ethiopian eunuch? 2— What does it mean to you and look like for you to abide in Jesus because of the Holy Spirit? 3— Ponder the fruit you have borne. In what ways did abiding in Christ make fruit possible? 4—How do these texts speak to you today? Prayer: O God, form the minds of your faithful people into a single will. Make us love what you command and desire what you promise, that, amid all the changes of this world, our hearts may be fixed where true joy is found. Amen.
Memory Verse: John 15:1 [Jesus said:] 1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower.

This week’s Bible story is
Philip and Easter 5 the Ethiopian from Acts 8:26-40.
Let’s spread the good news! Ask each other what you remember about: • Ethiopian (Man from Ethiopia) • Prophet Isaiah • Chariot • Baptism • Philip The prophecies of Isaiah are found in the Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament. Isaiah lived hundreds of years before Jesus, but Jesus knew Isaiah’s prophecies very well.
Read the whole story together in the Bible! Spark Story Bible pages 510-513
Family Conversations 1
If you were going to tell someone the good news about Jesus, what would you tell them?
2
The Ethiopian was baptized when he was an adult. When were you baptized?
3
What makes news “good?” Is some good news better than others?
4
Make a list of stories about Jesus from your favorite children’s Bible. Put each one on a slip of paper and take turns drawing the stories out of a hat. Tell or read whichever story you draw.
Eye Spark Whenever you see a Bible, read some! (Place your Bible where you will be SURE to see it!)

Ear Spark Family Prayer Dear God, help us to know when and how to tell other people the good news about Jesus. AMEN.
Whenever you hear water running or splashing, imagine what it would be like to be baptized in that water. Lectionary, Philip and the Ethiopian Family Page. SparkTM Sunday School © 2009 Augsburg Fortress. All rights reserved. May be reproduced for local use provided every copy carries this notice.
Tell each other the good news stories of baptisms in your family. Place a beautiful bowl of water somewhere in your home where everyone can dip their fingers in and touch it to their heart or head to remind themselves of their baptism and their role in sharing the good news.
For younger kids Volunteer to pass out invitations to worship or an event at your church where people can hear the good news.
For older kids Find pictures and video footage of a variety of baptisms on the internet. What do they have in common? What varies?
