We gather today as God’s beloved children to worship our Heavenly Father. We praise his holy name, we listen eagerly for his words of comfort, hope, and challenge to us, and we offer ourselves to him in dedicated service. May you be blessed as you worship here today.

April 22, 2018 St. Paul Lutheran Church is a congregation of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (E.L.C.A.). It is referred to as “Borchers” since Rev. Henry Borchers, who served our congregation from 1857-1881, advised and influenced a small group of pioneer settlers that wanted to establish a congregation in the area. This year we celebrate 166 years of life and ministry in this beautiful country setting in Southern Indiana. We look forward to many more years of growth and change as we seek continually to be faithful to God’s call to mission.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is
offered at the 8:00 a.m. services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and at the 10:15 a.m. service on the 1st and the 3rd Sundays of the month. Christians who believe in the true presence of Christ in the bread and wine for our forgiveness and salvation are invited to receive Holy Communion.

Questions To Ponder: 1— Compare and contrast the Good Shepherd, the hired hand and the wolf, and ponder the differences 2— If you were introducing Psalm 23 to someone who had never heard it, what would you say? 3— In a world of instant communication about global poverty, what does love look like in practice? 4—How do these texts speak to you today?

The Good Shepherd
Easter 4
Family Conversations
from John 10:11-18.
1
A shepherd takes care of sheep. What does our family help take care of?
Jesus cares for us like a good shepherd.
2
How do we know Jesus cares for us?
3
How does God help us when we’re having a hard time?

Open a small bag of multi-colored candies. Assign a candy-color to each person. Take turns picking out a candy. Whoever has their color drawn thanks God for taking care of someone in their life and then gets to eat the candy!
Ask each other what you remember about: • Sheep • Good Shepherd • Jesus Throughout the Bible, God promises to shepherd the people – to care for them, lead them, love them, and keep them safe. Jesus is this promised Good Shepherd.

Family Prayer Thank you, Jesus, for always watching out for us like a good shepherd! Guide us in your good ways. AMEN.
Eye Spark Next time you’re searching for something you lost, think of how God searches us out in our times of need.

Parenting is shepherd-like — loving, guiding, protecting. Spend some time reviewing your family’s safety plans. How can your child call you for help? (Review home/cell/work numbers.) Who should they call if you can’t be reached? Remind them of all the “shepherds” in their life who can help them find their way.
For younger kids Help someone look for something this week— be sleuth-like shepherds and look for something that is lost or misplaced.
For older kids Use the internet to search on the word “shepherd.” How many websites talk about shepherding sheep and how many talk about church programs? Try “good shepherd” and see what comes up.
