St. Paul Lutheran Church is a congregation of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (E.L.C.A.). It is referred to as “Borchers” since Rev. Henry Borchers, who served our congregation from 1857-1881, advised and influenced a small group of pioneer settlers that wanted to establish a congregation in the area. This year we celebrate 162 years of life and ministry in this beautiful country setting in Southern Indiana. We look forward to many more years of growth and change as we seek continually to be faithful to God’s call to mission.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is

offered at the 8:00 a.m. services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and at the 10:15 a.m. service on the 1st and the 3rd Sundays of the month. Christians who believe in the true presence of Christ in the bread and wine for our forgiveness and salvation are invited to receive Holy Communion.

Sunday School classes are held each Sunday for all ages at 9:10 a.m. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Readings for the Day:

Isaiah 66:10-14: Those who returned from the exile found that the hopes for the glorious restoration of Judah were not completely fulfilled. For these disappointed people, the prophet envisions salvation in the image of a nursing woman. Mother Jerusalem and a mothering God remind the community how they are sustained and supported.

Galatians 6:7-16: In the close of his letter to the Galatians, Paul encourages them to live as people made right with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Here Paul offers practical advice about how believers exercise common concern for one another in ‘the family of faith.’

Luke 10:1-11, 16-20: Jesus commissions harvesters and laborers to go where he would go and do what he would do. Risking hardship and danger in exchange for the experience of great joy, they offer peace and healing as signs that the reign of God is near.

Questions To Ponder: 1— Why does Jesus send people out in pairs? 2— Why the instructions to carry no purse, no bag, no sandals? 3— What does it mean to shake the dust off your feet? 4— Why does Jesus tell them not to rejoice over the power that they displayed, but that their names are written in heaven? 5—How do these texts speak to you today?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the Lord of the harvest. Empower us to be sent out into the world and announce your kingdom to the world. Amen.

Memory Verse: Luke 10:20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
