Staffing Opportunities Summer 2016

Sorrento Centre is looking for dynamic, inclusive, and energetic people to work in all departments! We will hire 15-20 people to join our staff for the summer months. All staff must be between the ages of 16-25.

Children and Youth Program Coordinators: Leadership Team Along with the Summer Staff Coordinator, these two staff members work to create the Children & Youth program, train, mentor, and supervise the Summer Youth Staff, as well as facilitate community within staff housing. These two positions start in May.

Children and Youth Staff These staff work with children and youth (ages 0-18). Throughout each week you are responsible for co-leading a group of children or youth. You will participate with them in their planned activities, as well as develop new and creative activities to engage them for the length of their stay. *

Waterfront Supervisors (NLS Qualified)

In the afternoon, waterfront staffs lifeguards at the Sorrento Centre beach, which is used by guests and community members. They also plan activities for the children and youth programs at the waterfront. For half of the day, while not lifeguarding, lifeguards will work in one of the other departments (to be determined based on applicant’s skillsets and on the needs of different departments). * * CHILDREN AND YOUTH AND WATERFRONT STAFF ARE 5-WEEK POSITIONS. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE 5 WEEKS, ANYONE IN THESE POSITIONS WILL MOVE INTO OTHER DEPARTMENTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUMMER. ** EACH SPRING WE DETERMINE WHICH FOUR-MONTH SUMMER STAFF POSITIONS (MAY – SEPTEMBER LABOUR DAY WEEKEND) WE WILL NEED ON SITE. THESE POSITIONS ARE A POSSIBILITY FOR THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS: GROUNDS AND FARM, HOUSEKEEPING, AND KITCHEN. Kitchen Staff Kitchen staff work with our Head Cooks in preparing and serving meals, cleanup, and insuring that we are all well fed! These positions have varied shifts and responsibilities.

Grounds and Farm Staff Grounds and Farm staff work with our Grounds Department to look after the Sorrento Centre grounds and landscaping on site, as well as nurturing and harvesting produce at the Sorrento Centre Farm.

Maintenance Staff Maintenance staff work directly with the Head of Maintenance. Responsibilities include constructing, fixing, and maintaining buildings on site.

Housekeeping Staff Working in Housekeeping will include cleaning and the upkeep of guests’ accommodations and site-wide facilities.
