School Profile: All Saints High School Robotics Team ­ The ASTECHZ The Robotics Club at All Saints High School was established in September 2006 as an extracurricular opportunity for students in grades 7 to 12. Most of the membership is drawn from the school’s credit course in Robotics TDR3M as well as those students with a keen interest in technology.

The Board of Trustees welcomed the new student trustees for this school year: Daniel McInnis from

Recent accomplishments include:

St. Francis Xavier High School, and Monica Silver from Immaculata High School.

Started and mentored 4 rookie teams in Ottawa Started and mentored a rookie team in Calgary Competed in three ‘FIRST’ Events ­ FIRST is For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology ­ where they won three awards: the Dean’s List, the Quality Award and the Woodie Flowers Award.

Kindergarten Registration The Board Kindergarten registration dates for the 2015­2016 school year are January 19­23, 2015.

Standard & Poor’s 2014 Rating Report The Ottawa Catholic School Board has again received the rating of  AA­/Negative outlook. This is unchanged from previous years and represents the highest rating possible presently for school boards in the Province of Ontario. The complete report can be found on pages 61­66 of the September 9, 2014 Board Agenda. The Robotics program at All Saints High School provides learning and mentoring opportunities – and it’s fun!

Director of Education, Julian Hanlon, reported a smooth start to the school year. Three hundred students were registered through the Summer Registration Area and very preliminary enrolment numbers suggest we Kindergarten and a French Immersion pathway for all students in their home school.

Continuing and Community Education ­ Summer Programs report   Email   Print  Like

Peter Atkinson, Superintendent of Continuing and Community Education, introduced Marianne Kayed, Manager of Continuing and Community Education, and Gino Milito, Principal of Continuing and Community Education. The team outlined the successful summer programs that met the needs of 9,020 people of all ages. Highlights: Summer school credit program – Over 2,600 students took Reach Ahead, Make Up and e­learning courses with a completion rate of 89%. Developmental Education program – Partnering with the Student Services Department, 59 high­needs special education students at ten sites remained in school for the month of July. Summer Camps – These successful programs saw a 19% increase in registration this year, serving 3,877 students in multi­sports and arts themed camps at 51 sites. Summer International Language Elementary program – Growing 33% in three years, this program teaches Cantonese, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Dutch, Tigrinya and Spanish to grade school children. This year, 1,224 students registered; up 11% from last summer. Summer adult non­credit ESL – English language improvement courses were taught at four sites and this year 1,056 students participated. This was an enrolment increase of 23%. Focus on Youth – Employment and leadership opportunities were offered to 93 high school students who trained and worked as camp counsellors and custodial assistants. Summer Learning Program offered for the second year to 44 students at two sites. These students were at risk of not meeting the provincial standard in numeracy. This Math Camp ensured the students had a healthy breakfast, empowering instruction in the morning and free summer day camp in the afternoon. Superintendent of Planning and Facilities, Fred Chrystal, brought a summary of the activities of the Planning and Facilities Department over the summer. The Board congratulated the department on the special efforts the department continues to make, often going above and beyond the call of duty. Readiness of facilities at startup ­­­ The schools were in excellent shape on September 2. The tireless effort of work crews, caretakers and trades staff ensured that innumerable projects were completed in the two short months of summer while dozens of the schools were also in use for classes and summer camps. Start of construction for new Avalon (Cumberland) Elementary School ­­­ The Board's new elementary school in the Avalon (Cumberland) area is slated to open September of 2015.  Full­Day Kindergarten ­­­ Full­Day Kindergarten has now completed its five­year phase­in, and is offered in all of the Board’s elementary schools as of September 2014. Twenty new sites were added this year with significant renovation work and new additions undertaken. (see photos).  Pre­school retrofits ­­­ In the late winter and spring of 2014, six Child Care Centres were converted to Pre­ School Centres serving children 2 ½ to 3 ¾ years old at six schools. Facility Renewal Projects (FRP) and School Condition Funding projects Highlights: Portables and new furniture St. Patrick’s High School specialty rooms like dance, drama and Family Studies McMaster Elementary renewal program St. George renovations St. Luke (Ottawa) renovations Computer lab conversions at two schools Painting in all schools, roofing, modernizing elevators, re­lamping and ceiling tiles ….. and many, MANY more Summer use of schools, Focus on Youth, Grounds enhancement, Re­lamping, painting and summer cleaning ­­­ Besides supporting the training of student custodians in the Focus on Youth program, the Board hires over 120 students to work as painters, groundskeepers and revamping our schools.
