Historical trend The Board’s results have been consistently higher than the province over the last five years in the grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics assessments. Focus on improvement Board and school improvement plans are developed with special attention to literacy and mathematics. Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Ted Hurley, said, “While we are pleased with the overall results, we recognize the need for a proactive approach to improving scores in mathematics.” "Our Board continues to see progress in our EQAO scores, and our school improvement strategies ensure that our scores continue to get better,” said Julian Hanlon, Director of Education. The Board will focus its efforts in the area of professional learning in teaching mathematics, taking a multifaceted approach to improving scores in numeracy: Pedagogy – how we teach and learn Curriculum – what students learn Inquiry and Application – how our students use what they learn Almost 5,000 students in grades 3 and 6 wrote the EQAO tests during the 20132014 school year. The assessments measure the reading, writing, and mathematics knowledge and skills that students are expected to learn. For detailed information about each school's EQAO results, see pages 3035 of the September 23, 2014 Board Agenda.

to exist as students progress through high school.
Pass Rates and Registration: This year, pass rates in all compulsory courses continued to be high. Pass rates in all compulsory Applied courses maintained the growth seen last year, particularly in Grade 10 Applied Math. In Grades 9 and 10, the majority of our students take Academic and Applied level courses. In Grades 11 and 12, there was a slight increase in the number of students taking College and University level courses than in previous years.
Credit Recovery: Credit Recovery provides additional opportunity for students to gain missed credits through individualized instruction. This year, schools supported over 300 students in recovering a record high 654 credits (700 courses).
