This year, WRK 4U2 celebrated its tenth year as a ‘hands on’ opportunity for Grade 8 students to explore high school and career choices. This year, the highlight was the ‘Student Voice’, where over 200 students presented with staff this year to attendees. The annual forum was held on October 31, 2012 at the new CE Centre where thousands of students could view and participate in displays from community partners and many student led displays highlighting our Specialized Pathways which includes Focus Programs, Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM), Dual Credit

After positive feedback in schools piloting dual track in smaller schools, there will be a further expansion of Dual Track Centres in nine schools 20122013. Five more sites will begin the process to consider Dual Track in their school for 20132014, leaving four schools as ‘single track’ schools, offering immersion to students at their local dual track centre. Immersion French in Full Day Kindergarten Year three of five year roll out of Full Day: After very favorable feedback from the school communities, all 14 schools that piloted 50/50 French immersion programming at the full day Kindergarten sites will continue. Year four: In 20132014, the Board will add thirteen more schools, all with 50/50 immersion programming for JK and SK. Year five: For 20142015, parents will be notified as they register in the final twenty schools that all full day Kindergarten classes will offer 50/50 French/English for JK/SK programs in Sept 2014. For details on FSL Dual Track Centres, view pages 4648 of the January 8, 2013 Board Agenda. Read more on our French as a Second Language (FSL) webpage >>

Manon Séguin, Superintendent, Student Success (Intermediate/Secondary) and Joanne Gosselin, Coordinator of Student Success (Intermediate/Secondary) presented an overview of the Dual Credit Program to the Board. The program allows secondary schools students to simultaneously earn college credits while they are still enrolled at their high school. These credits can count towards both their high school diploma and postsecondary education. Students in the program in 20112012 had a 93% success rate with 204 students participating. This year, our projection is that 265 students will enrol in collegetaught Dual Credit and teamtaught Dual Credit programs. All of our high schools have students participating in Dual Credit programs. Read more about the Dual Credit Program >>
