LAKE REGION SCHOOL DISTRICT SPECIAL BOARD MEETING April 24, 2017 There was a Special Board Meeting on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Room at Lake Region Vocational Center. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL Karla Swanson Murphy called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Board members present were: Debra Albert, Stan Buchanan, Alison Caulfield, Beth Chaplin, Karen Eller, Tom Hancock, Cindy LeBlanc, Joseph McMahon, Philip Shane, and Karla Swanson Murphy. Janice Barter was excused. Administrators present were: Schools. Others present were:
Rosie Schacht and Alan Smith, Superintendent of
Sandy Arris and Walter Ridlon.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Everyone was asked to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of Silence for Ben Bowditch Karla Swanson Murphy expressed sympathy for the passing of Ben Bowditch on behalf of the Board. His quiet manner and his wisdom on Board topics will be missed. The Board had a moment of silence in Mr. Bowditch’s honor. APPROVAL OF AGENDA A motion was made by Beth Chaplin, seconded by Debra Albert, to approve the agenda. Motion carried unanimously. EXECUTIVE SESSION A motion was made by Beth Chaplin, seconded by Debra Albert, to go into Executive Session to discuss a student matter, pursuant to M.R.S.A. 405 6.B. Motion carried unanimously. The Board went into Executive Session at 7:05 p.m. Ms. Schacht, Mrs. Arris, the student and the student’s parents were invited to attend. The Board returned to Public Session at 7:10 p.m. A motion was made by Karla Swanson Murphy, seconded by Cindy LeBlanc, to readmit the student to school. Motion carried unanimously. A motion was made by Debra Albert, seconded by Beth Chaplin, to go into Executive Session to discuss a student matter, pursuant to M.R.S.A. 405 6.B. Motion carried unanimously.

The Board went into Executive Session at 7:11 p.m. Ms. Schacht, Mr. Ridlon, the student, and the student’s parent were invited to attend. Cindy LeBlanc, Debra Albert and Beth Chaplin were invited to be present for the Executive Session but they could not vote as they were not present for the Expulsion Hearing. The Board returned to Public Session at 7:21 p.m. A motion was made by Karla Swanson Murphy, seconded by Beth Chaplin, to allow the student to come back to school contingent on the results of the Substance Abuse report. Ms. Schacht and Mr. Smith must both agree that the student can return to school based on the report. Motion carried unanimously. A motion was made by Karla Swanson Murphy, seconded by Beth Chaplin, to go into Executive Session to discuss a student matter, pursuant to M.R.S.A. 405 6.B. The Board went into Executive Session at 7:23 p.m. to attend.
