Art Electives are exciting, hands-on classes that develop your creativity and the RIGHT side of your brain to properly balance with the academic left side. Intro Drawing & Design and Intro Sculptural Design are introductory classes that are GREAT on their own and when taken wonderfully lead into… Drawing: develop your artistic eye and learn mediums including drawing with pastels, charcoal, ink and more Painting: learn how to paint with oils, participate in gallery shows, etc. Ceramics: form and function – create some outstanding pieces of pottery! Advanced Ceramics: work large scale, learn how to throw pieces on the potters wheel as well as use real fire to glaze work in a cool process called Raku firing Jewelry Design: create quality pieces similar to those sold at Anthropologie for hundreds of dollars! Commercial Art & Design: Get real world experience as a graphic designer - we do work for the community & some projects even get paid! Technical Theater: Want to learn theatrical set design? This class will design and build the set pieces for the Fall play and Winter musical AP Studio Art: the “cream of the crop” of Cedarburg’s art students! Want less rigor - -take Independent Study Art! AP Art History: Do you love all things art? Then you will love this class where we learn about art from all over the world and across time, while also possibly earning college credit. Cultural Art, Calligraphy, Digital Photography and Advanced Photography do not require 2D or 3D art as pre-requisites
Business Education in Rm. 42 - Ms. Zieman
Want to get a head start on your college career? Try Business Ed! Accounting is strongly recommended for any student pursuing business degrees in college as well as students interested in management or business ownership. Accounting at CHS will cover material in one year that colleges will cover in two months! By taking College Accounting you can improve your success at college and maybe even get credit too! Personal Finance discusses “Real world street smarts” like careers, goal setting, buying a car, renting an apartment, credit, retirement accounts, budgeting, insurance, banks & other financial institutions, as well as checking accounts. In Multimedia Presentation, students will learn how to give professional presentations using PowerPoint & other forms of software. These skills will allow you to give top notch presentations in other classes, college & future careers. International Business has become a popular major as businesses enter the global economy. Learn about cultural differences & many other issues as you complete a project specific to one country where you must decide what to sell based upon their culture. Emerging Technologies provides students with the knowledge of cutting edge technology essential to know throughout high school & beyond. Students will learn Web 2.0 skills as they apply it in Google Docs & Microsoft Office. Desktop Publishing will help you unleash your creativity as you use Adobe InDesign to create magazine layouts, professional brochures & a personal calendar.
Business/Technology in Rm. 50 - Mrs. Kutz
Business Enterprise I & II allows students to interact with their peers as they learn about the principles of business & marketing. One third of all jobs in the United States involve some aspect on marketing. Students will visit Miller Park & Mayfair Mall to learn more about careers in business. College Introduction to Business is a college level course that allows you to earn 3 college credits through UW-Oshkosh. Interested in learning how to start a business? Create a business plan within a group! This course is a must for anyone considering majoring in business. College Personal Finance fulfills the financial literacy requirement for graduation & you can also earn 3 college credits when you take this course. Honors Economic & Finance fulfills the financial literacy requirement for graduation & you can also earn 3 college credits when you take this course. This course also involves the stock market challenge. You’ll learn about Macro and Micro economics as a part of this course. College Microsoft Office will give you a working knowledge of Word, Excel, Publisher, and Access. The skills you learn will help you through your collegiate career. You can also earn 3 college credits from U.W.-Whitewater. Sports & Entertainment Management is geared towards students with a career interest in sports & entertainment where you will develop a franchise or work with a sport team! Students will visit Lambeau Field & learn about careers in the sports industry. Career Internship allows students to work & obtain experience in a potential career. Students can gain work experience by assisting in a classroom, working at a non-profit organization or obtaining valuable knowledge at a local business. Leadership balances working on school and community projects with classroom activities that develop and improve leadership skills. The students will study the following topic areas: Trust, Team Building, Communication, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Goal Setting, Leadership Styles, Ethics, Diversity and Community Service. *this is a newer course offering
Computer Science in Rm. 41 - Mr. Cullen
Students who are curious about computers or technology should consider taking computer science courses. Research indicates that there will be 1,000,0000 new jobs created in the United States over the next decade that will involve programming or computational thinking. Computer science courses can be both fun AND practical. We offer courses geared for all levels--from complete beginners to experienced coders. Computer Concepts I: A single semester, beginning course where students create 3-D animations and phone Apps in a creative, fun environment. Computer Concepts II: A single semester course where students are introduced to the Java programming language and then create an interactive graphics project (animation or game) using Processing. Designed for students who have had some prior experience in programming. AP Computer Science A: An intensive year long course where students learn Java and take an AP exam to earn college level credit. Students also complete a post-AP project involving animation/games. AP/PLTW Computer Science Principles. A year long course that can be taken by both beginners or more advanced programmers. Qualifies for both Project Lead the Way credit and AP Credit: Topics include programming in several languages, the internet, artificial intelligence, and big data. There is an emphasis on collaboration as students create a portfolio and take a summative test to earn college credit. App Development: This is a brand, new single semester course designed for students with some programming experience. Students will learn the fundamentals of a text-based app programming language and immediately apply these skills as they create an app of their own design. You could be the creator of the next world-changing phone app!!

Family & Consumer Science in the CPAC - Ms. Matthews & Mrs. Bystol
Enhance your high school experience by strengthening critical life skills! Beginning Foods is the prerequisite to all other foods classes, learn food preparation techniques & safety. Lab experiences include cookies, cakes, pies, breads & more! Advanced Foods: Apply previous experience to units which include pasta, poultry, candy, microwave cooking, fruits, food preservation International Foods: Create sauces, appetizers, soups, desserts, garnishes, main dishes and garnishes of International origin. Learn about a variety of countries & their cuisine. Fashion Sewing: Designed for students who have an interest in clothing construction. No previous sewing experience is necessary!! Advanced Fashion Sewing is designed for students who wish to expand their skills in clothing construction. Fashion Merchandising: A hands-on course that focuses on the many aspects of the fashion world. Topics included are: apparel industry, textiles, elements of design & more! Child Development 1: An opportunity for all students to gain knowledge & hands on experience learning about the developmental characteristics & care of children. Child Development 2: Continued course work with & about children can certify you as an assistant child care worker to gain employment at a daycare center! In addition, you will receive 3 college credits from MATC, free! Interior Design: A project oriented class which offers hands on experience working with the elements and principles of interior design. Health Careers Exploration: An opportunity to take a look at the many careers in the growing healthcare field. Field trips, speakers, & activities provide insight into the world of health care. This course is articulated with Madison college & provides 2 college credits at no cost! A perfect choice for any students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in Rm. 43- Mr. Kerwin
PLTW is about learning real skills, solving real problems & making real discoveries about the world. PLTW builds skills for careers in medicine, science, engineering, or computer technology. Introduction to Engineering Design allows students to design & create products & ideas using concepts & tools that you will see in the workplace. An emphasis on product design & CAD (Computer Aided Design) are combined with hands-on projects. Principles of Engineering explores technology systems & engineering processes to find out how math, science, & technology help people. Digital Electronics allows students to use computer simulation to learn about the logic of electronics as they design, test, & actually construct circuits & devices. Civil Engineering & Architecture explores building construction & architectural design in our communities. Biotechnical Engineering shows how living organisms & bioprocesses combine with engineering to advance medical technology. With PLTW, you’ll build contraptions, learn about CAD & graphic design, use real lab equipment, & have fun while you’re doing it. PLTW is the first step on your life’s journey of imagination, innovation, and discovery. Start building a better world & a better you today! Advanced AutoDesk Inventor earn Industry certification with the completion of this semester long class that builds on the Inventor skills that were introduced in IED
Physical Education in the Vintage Gym - Mr. Berg & Mrs. Mann
Do you want to have fun? Be fit? Stay active? We offer the following Elective classes: Individual Sports: students will focus on personal skill proficiency in a variety of activities. The activities include but are not limited to golf, bowling, badminton, tennis, Pickleball, archery and table tennis. Lifetime Wellness: students will participate in a variety of activities to improve their personal fitness including yoga, Pilates, biking, snowshoeing, TaeBo, American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training. Net Games: students will participate in a variety of net games including but not limited to volleyball, table tennis, Pickleball, tennis, badminton, Eclipse Ball and water net games. Outdoor Education: this class is for those students who enjoy outdoor recreational activities that can be used throughout your lifetime. Among the units in this class are Biking, Disc Golf, Curling, Archery, Fishing, Snorkeling/SCUBA and Paddle Sports (Kayaking & Canoeing). Strength Training & Conditioning: offers each student an opportunity to use various physical training techniques to increase overall fitness levels as you develop an individual workout program. Team Sports: students will participate in a variety of team sports. The following activities in this class include but are not limited, to flag football, Nerf games, Ultimate Frisbee, team handball, floor hockey, kickball, whiffle ball, softball, basketball & volleyball. Lifeguard Training: is an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training course that teaches lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge need to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. To be eligible for this class students must complete PE9, must be 15 years of age and must pass the required pre-course swim test.
Technology Education in Rm. 44 - Mr. Lechner
These courses are a perfect fit for males and females looking for fun, hands-on courses that can help with real life challenges AUTOS: If you plan to own a car, maintain and repair your play things, look at the autos group of classes. We start with Consumer Automotive & Power Technology a one semester basic life skills class, next is Auto Service & Repair which is a 2 semester autos class, but still a class for either the average Joe or a career student. Last in the autos class is Advanced Automotive Service & Repair along with Advanced Autos Lab offers a two period (one per day) all year class for the career person or the serious hands on person. METALS: Metalworking is a hands-on, basic skills class with foundational knowledge for students interested in anything from metals careers to Engineering. Advanced Metalworking & Advanced Metals lab classes continuing from where the metals class left off; good classes for hands on or career people. BUILDING TRADES: Introduction to Technology and Construction & Manufacturing are courses that introduce students to technology used in these two industries. Consumer Home Maintenance & Repair is a practical course, intended for any student who will someday rent an apartment or own a home. Students will study a variety of mechanical aspects of a residential dwelling. Woodworking is a class that any person, male or female, would enjoy. Learn to use machinery safely to produce a project that you will be proud of the rest of your life. Woodworking II is a class that challenges students to craft quality wood products. Use the skills from Woodworking 1 along with new tips & techniques to create quality hand made furniture & cabinets that meet industry standards. Residential Construction is a course that will fulfill your needs. Learn what it takes to build a house from idea to finished product. You can work hands on with tools & materials found on a building site & it may even spark your interest as a career choice.
