What we are asking of you
The “Building on Success” Development Programme will have an impact on what we can offer to the current body of students at St. Michael’s College and to the generations to come. The commencement of each project is dependent upon the successful attainment of support from parents, past pupils and friends of the College.
Under current legislation, donations to approved bodies, such as St. Michael’s College, are grossed up at the specified rate (currently 31%) and the school will be able to reclaim that sum of income tax paid by the donor in addition to the net gift itself, which works out as approximately an additional 45% benefit to the school. For example
Since the foundation of the College, generations of parents have generously contributed to the development facilities available to the boys. The facilities that students enjoy today, including the Jubilee Building in the Senior School and the Shanahan Pavilion, were funded by parents in the past, for which we are all grateful.
If a donor gives for each of 5 years:
€5,000 p.a.
The monthly cost to the donor is:
€417 p.m.
The Revenue Commissioners would give the school an additional:
€2,246 p.a.
Creating a gross annual gift of: €7,246 p.a. ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
As we embark upon this phase of the campus development, we need the support of all parents of current students. Others have already made significant commitments to the Appeal and we are now asking you to consider how you can help also.
Total value to the school over 5 years:
€36,232
The table on the back page highlights how gifts from Irish tax-payers can be increased as tax paid is reclaimed by the College.
Companies can also contribute to the Appeal, and BUILDING ON SUCCESS treat the gift as a tax-deductible expense. Such relief is
We want to fund this development as tax-efficiently as possible, and this Appeal enables us to do that rather than increasing fees or class sizes.
We do not know the private finances of those whom we ask for support. However, from our experience and from the experience of other schools who have successfully undertaken similiar fundraising appeals, we know the level of individual gifts that we need in order to reach our overall goal. All that we can ask is that every parent and every past pupil give this request their fullest consideration, and support this Appeal as best they can.
at the corporate tax rate. Once a donor has made a pledge, he/she can increase or decrease that sum, postpone or cancel payment if financial circumstances change. However, we would ask donors to inform the College of any such changes. We ask you to return your Letter of Intent (and Standing Order form) to the College as soon as possible. Your support is vital for the continuing development of the campus and will influence the support of others.

Tax Efficient Giving to St. Michael’s College As an Irish tax-payer, if you make a donation, we would be able to increase the value of your net gift by an additional 45% approximately due to the tax that we could reclaim from the Revenue Commissioners. This would greatly increase the value of your gift and what we can achieve with it. Your contribution will provide strong momentum to the campaign, and will have an impact far beyond its monetary value in encouraging other donors to join us in providing these new facilities for students in the near future. If you have any queries or suggestions, please email the school on
[email protected] or phone (01) 218 9421. Thank you for taking the time to look over this document. Please return your Letter of Intent to St. Michael’s College. All responses are treated privately and confidentially.
